1950s / 60s / 70s Era

Hi everyone Relaxed

I'm new here so just wanted to say hi and hopefully make some new friends with similar interests.

Although I'm in my early 30s, I've always had a bit of an obsession over the 1950s, 60s and 70s era's from music, fashion/ vintage clothing, sewing patterns, crochet patterns/books, hairstyles and of course the VW Campervan and Beetle.

Does anyone else like these era's?

Share your experiences, hobbies and interests or what songs you like from the 50s, 60s or 70s. I would love to hear them Blush

  • All of it! Some of the very best stuff can be found in every decade of it. What about you?

  • You are a good man.  I salute you.

  • no, Lucy is a hardtop as I find this more practical. It gets cold up here on the moors so I insulated it and fitted a  diesel heater.

  • Hello Roy, it looks like a wonderful project with a Galvanized chassis and a 2.25 engine. I run a 2.25 diesel and would love to be able to rebuild mine but lack the skills and my dyspraxia is a curse.

  • I like the  1945-1979 forms of social organisation. And i also love the music, design, art, films.... most things about the era were better.  But not all.

  • The Good Life was amazing! I actually tried to live it a few years ago, grew vegetables in my garden, dropped out of the rat race as much as I could and it was wonderful. Such a inspiration

Yes I love Frank Spencer! He was so funny, I always kind of ended up feeling sorry for him

Favourite song from Ziggy Stardust... hum tough question. I would have to say the song Ziggy Stardust itself but Starman and Sufferegete City are also classics. Whats your favourite? I also love Life On Mars and Changes from his other albums, all his songs are amazing tbh!

I love the Kinks! Whats your favourite song? Mine is Come Dancing, its not one of their most well known ones but its so good, think Im going to listen to it now. Creedence Clearwater Revival are really good to

Yes its sad how commercialised Camden has got, they had a Lara Croft theme experience and a Sports Direct there last time I went, its a far cry from all the vintage shops and stalls selling band badges. Yes I have been to Carnaby Street, didnt see a lot of vintage stuff there but it was quite a while ago. Do they have much there?

  • Where did you get it? I couldnt find them hardly anywhere, in the end I mail ordered one from a department store in Norfolk!

  • I am actually scared to death of moving, my wife and I were both born in the same ward of our local hospital. Our eldest son lives in Exeter and my wife’s sister is in Cornwall.  I’ve planned that my workshop will be recreated in my new workshop, I know that I will need formality around me, my wife has given so much to me, my behaviour has been quite challenging for her over the years. Most partners would have walked. She now often sees my mask slip and understands me  more. It’s my turn to give her something back.

  • I think I was born in the wrong era but the beauty of not being alive then is I can indulge to my hearts content with rose tinted spectacles. I have always had a natural affinity with the sixties and seventies. In particular certain aspects of interior design and a certain colour palate I am drawn to for reasons i dont know. There are nods to this around my house. I like some of the fashions and art. The music has woven through all my life. I have had growing interest in the counter culture of this era over the past couple of years but it's always been in my awareness. When I was growing up I used to love seeing what I could find in the charity and junk shops. Back then, vintage wasn't a "thing" so there seemed to be more stuff around and it was relatively cheap.

  • I love Doctor Who. Do you prefer the older episodes or present day?

  • I bet the Biba dress was spectacular!!

  • I often watch 70’s and 80’s sitcoms, tv was a special interest when I was a child. I could go into most actors histories, it bores  normal people. I went to a function about 20 years ago, my wife went to an upmarket second hand boutique shop and bought a Biba dress, it was immense.

  • You are a lucky fellow, content and with the ever tempting possibility of "chosen pastures new."  Glorious, I'm very happy for you. x

  • Hi Billy87, you are very welcome. It's so nice to connect with other people that share a similar interest Blush I too use it as escapism from today's society.

Some great TV shows!! I completely forgot about The Good Life. That show was so good! I did enjoy the spin off Man about the House but I prefer George and Mildred. I'm sure there is a channel on Amazon Prime called Britbox where you can watch a lot of the classic shows. Do you like Some Mothers Do 'Av 'Em?

David Bowie...absolute classic!! I know it's difficult but what's your favorite song from the Ziggy Stardust album?

There are too many great songs and artists to list but a few of my favourites are Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Rivival, Jimmy Hendrix, The Kinks, The Mamas and The Papas etc.

Yes, I've got quite a few original clothing pieces from the 60s and 70s from quaint vintage shops and etsy. Yeah unfortunately Camden has changed. Have you been to Carnaby Street London?

  • My house was built in 1970.

  • I just bought a cassette walkman for twenty quid as I realised I can’t continue my great pilgrimage (all of telly Doctor who in order for the first time properly) until I can listen to the one story I only have on audio cassette. So sometimes vintage is a necessity!

  • Sounds very appealing

  • My house is still ‘for sale’ the rising interest rate for mortgages has killed the market. We had a second viewing on Saturday, so fingers crossed. We are definitely moving to Cornwall, it’s not a rush. We have found two properties with no neighbours within sight and a workshop included.

  • Roger Moore is my favourite Bond too. The Daniel Craig films are very polished and worthy, but just too downbeat (and long) for me to watch often. Moore's Bond is just fun, definitely something to watch on a wet Sunday afternoon.
