Sharing this on here because I know there are other birdwatchers around, just had a great spotted woodpecker on my bird feeders in my back garden! Had my binoculars next to me so got a good look
Now I'm very jealous, red kites are a favourite of mine. There's a few around here but not quite where we live, we get buzzards and sparrowhawks instead.
Sometimes get offal from a Supermarket when it’s near closing time, liver is a favourite, couldn’t eat it myself. I throw it onto the back garden, often 6 Red Kites will dive bomb and clear it in minutes. The speed is amazing.
Wow! I see them sometimes when I'm kayaking as a flash of blue but never as good as that.
I saw a kingfisher from my window, but only once.
So pretty I love the chance to see birds I wouldn't normally get to see so I sort of accept aviaries and zoos.
We used to buy loads of bird food but we had to stop as all the bird food was attracting rats into our garden. Plenty of neighbours feed the birds so we at least know the birds are not going hungry because we stopped feeding them. We have a bird Bath that they use a lot, and thanks to our fencing the cats can’t get into our garden so it’s really safe for birds. Sometimes we see sparrowhawks and buzzards at the back of our house too as it’s open fields. I love hearing the dawn chorus at this time of year. Worth waking up early for!
They are so beautiful - thanks for sharing these photos! Such lovely colours!
Not from my garden, but from today's visit to a park in Wakefield, photos not clear because they were taken thru a metal mesh in an Avery.
Me too. I love having them in the garden. I'm trying to convince my husband that it makes sense to bulk buy the bird food and he seemed a bit clueless about the different types of food to attract different birds, and got that glazed look when I started explaining.
I’m pretty obsessed with owls to be honest! But I love all birds. Recently we went to RSPB Minsmere and saw Marsh Harriers, they were so beautiful to watch. But I love little garden birds too, I love Robins, they’re so curious and friendly around humans. Birdwatching makes me really happy.
Wow, that's wonderful! I've heard owls near us only a couple of times but haven't seen any.
I saw a baby tawny owl today peeking out of the owl box on a tree near us! I was so glad to see it! They had chicks in the same box last year and I was hoping they would do again this year. So glad to see that!
They sound like they're saying "who-who-whooo" to me, like a very confused person who doesn't know who someone is.
Aw that's lovely. I know this is maybe a bit picky and bizarre but I like the sound of the collared dove better than the call of the wood pigeon. For some reason when I hear wood pigeons they always sound like an elderly person I once knew with a really bad smokers cough, and it's just oddly disconcerting to me on a fundamental level that the subtle change in pitch/tone makes all the difference.
I've been debating whether I try to coax the pair I see in the big trees behind my garden to come down, as fun as it might be to build a relationship where I feed them and they bring me presents, I know they prey on smaller birds and I wouldn't want to drive off my existing residents.
I've seen a lot of crows here. They're living inside the old shed at the back of my garden.
I see them fly in and then can hear them squawking loudly.
If you do so will I!
I'd forgotten the long-tailed ones, we get those as well.
I've got a slightly wilder flower bed at the top of the garden next to the Scots pine tree that I've planted some teasels in hoping that will attract more goldfinches.
As I'm sat in the garden now I can hear the buzzards again, they must be really enjoying the thermals at the moment.
The bot obviously thought those birds were rude, hope I don't get deleted.
Thank you for sharing that. It always feels special to have a woodpecker.
I enjoyed a visit from a goldfinch yesterday. I checked what it was because it was singing a lovely song on from our neighbours aerial.
We have a lot of red kites around here and recently they are flying even lower than usual. One landed on a tall tree near our house once.
We have great *** and blue *** and occasionally coal *** and long tailed ***. I find it amusing sometimes when I am in the garden and it sounds like they are telling me to go in as they want to come in and feed.
We keep a wild bit at the end of our garden which the birds love.
I see from your later message you have seen some birds I haven't seen. I always find it exciting to see something different.
Lol, it's sensored T-I-T-S.
