Unnecessary anxiety??

I am one of a few Jews living in a small Norfolk town. I already have strikes against me being an autistic American with no friends who has experienced my car being "keyed", having two tyres let down, damage to recently installed fencing on my driveway. Now with this Israelie war and an apparent widspread refusal in the UK population to condemn the barbaric attack by Hamas as reported on our News media --- am I being unnecessarily anxious?

  • I'm sorry that you're anxious but maybe focus the thread on that?

What I'm reading feels like attacks on other people.  You don't like "woke", replace it with the words "compassionate human being" and see how it reads.  Try not to use language that you know is going to be inflammatory.  We're neurodivergent, the world is neurodiverse, we're never all going to agree.

Yes the attacks were horrific. The situation is incredibly complex from millenia of fighting over what to me is a cursed patch of land.

Ultimately we are passengers on a small planet orbiting the sun, too soon we return to the dust and own nothing.  In 10 years your scratched car is forgotten, in a 100 years we're all forgotten.  So let's do the least damage possible whilst we're here.

Make friends with your neighbours or the other Jewish folks in your village. Embrace the local culture, volunteer at a worthy local cause. Make someone else happy if you can't be happy yourself.  It's up to you.

  • I've not come across any anti-semitic ingrained dislike in the UK,

Enter Jeremy Corbin and his followers

  • My solution is to keep a low profile despite the wellbeing issues it presents

  • The “state of Israel” now seems to encompass rather more land than it was awarded by the UN in 1948

  • " Historical suffering" This is the exact excuse protestors in favour of the Palistinians are using to shield their lack of condemnation of the barbaric attack on thier premise of being the injured party through many years of  their terrorism sending out rocket bombardments.

" The promised land" --- NOBODY twisted the arms of all the UN members in 1948 to agree on the creation of the state of Israel (perhaps God did)

" behaving like an outsider" --- more like a consistant treatment as an outsider despite my efforts to socially intergrate.

  • I already have strikes against me being an autistic American

I rather think this is the reason some of the local scumbags find you worth tormenting - being American is often thought of as being an arrogant outsider.

I've not come across any anti-semitic ingrained dislike in the UK, at least no more than the usual dislike of anyone from a different origin / religeon / football team supporters club / ginger hair etc

I do see a lot of anti-Israeli sentiment from their long term treatment of Palestine and their theft of land that belongs to the Palestinians using the claim that one of their blokes heard God tel him it was theirs thousands of years ago. A bit convenient that.

Confusing the dislike of the behaviour of the State of Israel with the general persecution of Jews is a common tactic used by those looking to use the historical suffering of Jews as a shield for a truly aweful State government.

Since when did anti-semitic become so much worse than say anti-catholic in terms of it being evil? Why is one religion able to cause so much more damage to peoples reputation for labelling them as anti-semitic than say a protestant being anti-catholic?

At the end of the day I doubt anyone cares if you are Jewish, Hindu or Scientologist - behaving like an outsider in a small town society is much more likely to get you into peoples bad books in the UK.

  • No, you've clearly been the victim of hate crime on the grounds of religion, race, nationality and disability and have every right to be concerned.    I really would be systematically reporting this stuff to the police.

As for the for the rights/wrongs or any direct impacts of the conflict, ..maybe, I guess it could heighten tensions here, but I am not sure the racist idiots who engage in that sort of mindless vandalism are often that up to speed with either history or current affairs on anything.  I'd have guessed that's more likely to impact on the subtler racism which breeds under a veneer of hints and allusions amongst the better read who might hold a grudge against which ever side they believe are in the wrong.

Either way, this isn't paranoia on your part and you need this taking seriously.

  • There is prejudice everywhere my friend, all of the time, for so many things, some obvious, a lot that is not so obvious.

I absolutely do fully understand your position and pain, I know what it is like to not feel safe, I know what it is like to not feel safe in your own home and also when it drags on for years, and I know what it feels like when people are not listening or doing anything to stop it, it takes a huge toll on your mental and physical health.

I do hope you can find a solution, also some peace and respite somehow.

  • Yes I had reported these attacks to my property. There exists a very long history of several thousands of years supporting my anxious concerns. The UK is a fair and open society with self expression, but is not free of prejudice. (Ref: Jews Don't Count - D. Baddiel )

That has helped my anxiety a great deal. Thanks for your input

  • Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. If you are being targeted for your religion or your disability, it's a hate crime. Maybe you need to report these attacks on your property, maybe you have already?I have no idea as you don't specify.

Please don't assume that the people you are talking to have not been through far worse than what you describe in your post.

    Sorry for your troubles.

  • I grew up in a place like that, some of the stuff that went on was just plain weird, unless you'd lived there for generations you were never accepted

  • To be honest no sane person wouldn’t condemn that attack. Horrific. I’m no expert on the whole thing but I think most people can see that there are faults on both sides, and violence should always be condemned, and both sides are using violence. I’m sorry you’re feeling threatened at the moment - I hope your anxiety about this will soon ease. And I’m so sorry your car has been damaged - that’s terrible. No wonder you feel anxious. But I think most people in the U.K. will soon move on from the story - rightly or wrongly.

  • My concerns run parallel to that of a pre woke blackman.

  • The tyres being let down was probably just kids unless you’ve got evidence to the contrary.

i don’t live in Norfolk but if it’s anything like where I live, you are an outsider unless you were born there and lived there all your life and even then sometimes that’s not enough.

  • If I was a black *** man before all this woke nonsense infiltrated this society --- would your reply still be the same? [edited by moderator]

  • It depends.

Why do you assume it's Anti-Semitism? Lots of people get bullied/harangued/harassed and get their property vandalised and the reasons can be unclear unless they actually voiced something. There doesn't even need to be a reason sometimes - people can just be 'inside-out' and looking for a target. Have they actually said anything about Judaism to you? Are you on a local authority estate?

Not sure where you're getting the idea that UK pop' would ever condone any of what's happened?? The whole thing is horrific.

  • The word is out there probably through FB

  • Do you look Jewish? If not how would anyone know you are Jewish?
