Technology how has it help you?

I have an iPhone 14 pro max, Apple Watch SE, and an iPad. All three are useful tools for instance setting reminders to take my meds, doctor appointments, zoom meetings, etc.  how has technology help you?

  • Here is a definition of technology:

technology, the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life or, as it is sometimes phrased, to the change and manipulation of the human environment (Britannica).

So, 2 medical advances that have helped me hugely are being able to wear contact lenses instead of glasses with my acutely myopic presciption, as was.

Also, being able to have new lenses put in my eyes so that I can see much better than I ever  have before.

There are so many medical advances made during the last few decades.

  • God, I feel ancient.

and I'm sure Ancient is fine with it!  :-)

  • As an addendum, I only got my 1st personal calculator in the 1970s.

Before that all sums were done on paper.

    A wonderful invention.

    God, I feel ancient.

  • My reply could be vast because of my age.

For now I will just talking about 3 aspects of technology that made vast improvements both to my working life and my personal life:

    The personal computer.

I worked as a legal assistant for over a decade and when I 1st started I had to type documents on a manual typewriter and manually correct them.  There was no way to 'save' this document.

Then with regard to Wills I sewed them up by hand with ribbon and used a match to seal it with candle wax.

No health and safety in the 1980s!

The ability to type anything and save it for printing, to correct as you go along, to go back to and continue another day, to copy as a 'precedent' + then update for another document, was fantastic for me.  The examples would be endless.

Then the PC at home made organisation much simpler.

The internet - where to start.

No more walking to libraries, looking up information, taking + paying for photocopies of documents, asking to see copies of old newspapers for research, using a microfiche system.

    I could go on forever.

    The mobile phone

No more standing at phone boxes in a queue, often in the dark to call people.

No more obligation to always call and having to have a conversation on the phone I find painfully difficult (ie texting instead).

Information and connection at your fingertips.

I can actually look up my own symptoms and not rely on unreliable GPs.

    This forum exists!

    etc etc etc

  • Tech is the way i socialise.

Exactly! I much prefer virtual socialising to in person socialising.

  • Tech is the way i socialise.

Tech is also a great resource for learning about Autism and ... well anything.

  • Also forgot to add things I can do instead of calls, emails, customer service live chats, food ordering apps, things which remove the need for phone use or direct interaction with people

  • Hello. Thanks for starting a great discussion. Technology has helped me as I much prefer email and written communication over spoken communication. Using email and writing to communicate is so much easier, it gives me more time to process and organise my thoughts and as a result be more eloquent.

  • I have to set reminders on my phone otherwise I forget to do everything, they pop up on my watch as well. My Apple Watch also helps alert me when I can’t hear my phone because I’m having to keep it quiet or silent or I don’t have my hearing aids in. My hearing aids themselves are ‘Made for iPhone’ so they directly connect for phone calls and streaming sound

  • Technology helps me in lots of ways.

It helps me communicate with others because I can't hear and have difficulty speaking.

Technology of cameras helps me earn money because I do Vlogs and take photos which pays pretty well.

Technology of lights that can be dimmed in my house are a big help.
