hey my nme is justice, i'v known i'v had autisem for years but never had visual sensativoty to light and noise untill the past couple years, i cant go out i cant see the people i want to or go out and hang out like i want to . i'm a prisner in my own home, i can barly walk my dog enough, i got perscription sunglasses and i even use an MP3 player but its not enough i'm all out of idea's plse help :(
You may find that a pair of wrap around sunglasses help. They have bits at the side so that light can't get through that way. And a sun hat may help.
I sympathise, although yours sounds even more extreme than mine. I can't even bear bright colours, they hurt my eyes.
My chiropractor recommended tinted lenses, so I got red tinted sunglasses that I wear the whole time I am out, whatever the weather. They change the light rather than block it much. You could try on different coloured tints in a shop that does sunglasses or something.
You may find flexible silicone earplugs will be the best as they are made for people that work in noisy factories etc. and you can get them cheap on eBay. There are also those ones that are like putty so you fit them exactly to your own ear.
Read up on Mears Irlen Syndrome (also known as scotopic sensitivity). I fit the criteria for this.
well for light its mostly bright light, sunlight, and LED's re particulerly bad to,and as for noise its mostly high pitch noises (sirens, alarms, screaming ect) and also large colections of smaller noise, (a room of people talking, lots of cars bikes or busses,) at first it was ok i kinda liked the down time toi not go out and be lazy for a little while, but thats was for like the first month or so... its nerly 3 years now and no end to my sensativoty is in sight on top of that its a real problem for my family AND my GF the longer this goes on the more of a problem its getting its just getting worse and worse, now whenever my GF mentions something like "i'm bored, going out would have been nice" brings me to tears more and more each time its killing me to my very core i know she dosnt mean it in spitefull way cos she is more lovingg and caring then anyone i know appart from my own mum, i know its me getting more and more sensative to the issue at this rate i dont know how long i can keep up a fake smile ?and i have looked into glasses with a spacialist tint but i fear that might not be enough still :/
Hi Justice - this must be miserable for you. My son has a sensitivity to certain noises + wears headphones when out - the ones that go over your ears. When the music's playing he is undisturbed but when he switches his music off sound permeates thru again. Headphones are helpful but are not a complete answer to the problem. Ear defends, I've heard, can be helpful but not if you want to communicate with others. Opticians may be able to advise about whether the lenses in your glasses need changing. Could you explain to us in a bit more detail so perhaps we can give better replies to you. For example is it any kind of light or noise or only certain kinds of light or noise? Sorry, wish I could be of more help.
