I feel like I really should change my name on here so it no longer comes up as a number. Problem is I really don't like nicknames very much and don't want it to be anything to do with my actual name. How do people come up with their names? Some of them are so clever.
I simply use my old university logon ID...
What a wonderful nickname you've got. Love the fact we're all unique and idiosyncratic - after years of not fitting in I'm finally part of the coolest gang ever!
I used to do a lot of caving and pot-holing years ago, and I'm usually rather scruffy, have a scraggly beard, and a wobbly, stooping gait; so I've been called a "troglodyte" in one variation or another for thirty years now (usually just "Trog"). The unusual "...luddite" spelling came from a friend who thought it was appropriate given my dislike of social media, mobile phones, etc., and I like that it's a little bit ironic given that I'm such a keen computer programmer.
From Blade runner. Blade runner 2 now, as the androids have upgraded since the nexus 6's from the first one.
You say this but I don't know what it is or means?
I think mine speaks for itself
Yes its a great read, he is very frank and open about his life. He had a pretty tough time as a kid as well as post Pistols when he hit the smack. He doesn't sugar coat anything but his sense of humour really balances out the tough bits. He has done an audio book of it too which I'm thinking of getting as I'd like to hear it again from the horses mouth. Dunno if you have heard any of his Jonsey's Jukebox radio interviews? Many of them are fab and are up on youtube;www.youtube.com/.../videos
I've been reading transcripts of some interviews with Steve Jones - his autobiography looks like it would be a fascinating read too
Had to Google this one. I'd never heard of it before. I'm loving those sunglasses though.
That's an interesting one. I hadn't even heard of the Windscale fire so I've just googled it.
I wouldn't know the difference between the spellings. I vaguely remember doing Beowulf at school but can't remember much about it. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing clever about mine, its one of my heroes Steve Jones one time guitarist with the Sex Pistols and nowadays a radio DJ in Los Angeles... He may well also be an Aspie or as he refers to is Arseburgers although that is mostly speculation on my part but he did seem to recognise some traits in himself whilst interviewing Gary Numan on air recently.
Mine is a reference to Beowulf, with spelling of Grendel intentionally wrong as the first time I used the name I spelt it wrong but never bothered to correct it as to me it looks better spelt as Grendal.
More innocent times I guess...
I was working on a project that went through a very slow patch whilst we were waiting for manglement to make up their mind what to do. The guy leading my team got interested in nuclear accidents and we all ended up researching and reading about them whilst waiting for a decision. Anyway, after reading the about the Windscale fire I kept thinking "Well whouda thunked it'd be a good idea to build an air cooled, carbon cored, nuclear reactor?" Plus, Windscale Fire sounds like a cool name. Like Max Powah! or something.
People can be very cruel to anyone they perceive as being different in any way. This is terrible to have to endure. We should all be able to live somewhere where we feel accepted by those around us.
These photos are truly beautiful. The bottled gherkins look so vivid I can almost smell and taste them! The aerial view from your bedroom is so beautiful. I can see Lavatera, a pear tree and hydrangea which I also have in my garden.
It is good to be part of this online community surrounded by people who do not have such ignorant and unkind attitudes.
The best thing about sunflowers is that they keep the zombies off your lawn! :-)

Final set of photos. Of our gerkin harvest in 2004. And photo from my bedroom window showing about 20% of our garden.
BTW most of the neighbors on our street completely shunned me and my family. We were the persona non Grata of the neighborhood.
Their nicknames for us cannot be printed here.
View from bedroom window. And some sunflowers.
Gerkin harvest.
Some were eaten fresh as they ripened. Others were pickled in jars to be eaten over winter.
ok so I need to confess I have just changed my nickname on here to Bagpuss7.....My old one (3 letters and a 7) is one I used to use on another website, not AS related, and the email linked to it I think may have been compromised. So for safety I've changed my nickname on here.
Actually felt really strange reading this thread when I was coming on here to see how one went about changing ones nickname!
So why Bagpuss...well, there's a little cuddly one sat looking at me next to my computer right now!
