Body temperature regulation

Does anyone else have trouble regulating their body temperature? I get so hot sometimes I have to walk around the house in my underwear whilst others don't seem to feel it . But I also go the other way and can be really really cold and other people aren't. Am I just super sensitive to heat ?

  • I don't know about regulating my internal temps, but I do know that I HATE being too hot. It makes me feel sick, and sweaty, and considering that it doesn't take a lot to make me sweat, this past summer has made me want to melt into a disgusting puddle in the corner.

Being over-sensitive to ANY of your senses, internal or external, is a very common ASD trait. I deal with mine by having a fan in my room and spending some time in my back garden.

I hope you can figure out a way to deal with it Smiley

  • For me, the winter means no bugs, which I am extremely sensitive to. My body hates extreme cold or heat and requires time to adjust to either temperature. I have found the only exception to this is when I am trying to regulate a newborn or small infants temperature, which I find odd, but helpful

  • Yep, I do - I'm always cold, especially in winter. In summer I get too hot. My hands are permanently freezing because I have poor circulation.

  • i'm not sure --- you could have ancestors who survived the cold maybe.  Wear multi-layer clothes so you can adjust your insulation.

  • I Have the same issue i can feel hot all of a sudden when im walking around but I can also feel cold  when others dont is this just me or is it due to autism

  • I often feel colder than seems proportionate to the temperature. If I feel pressure, stress, anxiety, anger or irritation this response seems to become more elevated. I'll often sit with a hot water bottle on my lap on a mild day (I live in South Africa so it doesn't get extremely cold here, even in winter.) It is currently springtime and I have a hot water bottle on my lap today while it is 19° Celsius outside and I'm wearing a warm sweater. As a child, I was never cold and would go to school without shoes or a sweater, until the teacher told my mom I HAVE to wear shoes because my feet are turning blue from the cold. Sometimes, I don't seem to feel the temperature at all either. I'm not sure if there's a pattern to that with me or if it is random.

  • A cabin by a fjord too!

  • A snowy mountain somewhere would be nice!

  • DuckBread I am with you. I run hot and don't like anything above 19 Degrees. If global warming is going to result in longer hotter summers I am going to have to move north.

  • I can't stand hot temperatures! Summer is a nightmare for me - I just feel so uncomfortable and trapped in the heat. Nobody at work believes me when I say I'm looking forward to winter. I need my loose, comfy jumpers and cooler temperatures back! Do you tend to find your sensory sensitivities are heightened in summer? I'm really struggling with that at the moment.

  • Yeah! It feels easier to breath too, and less sunlight. Summer doesn't agree with me at all. My senses are cranked up to 10!

  • If you are anything like me you prefer the winter when its frosty?

  • I'm very sensitive to heat. It's driven me to some dark places. Last summer was a nightmare. If I'm alone I'm pretty much the same with what I wear. It feels like I'm covered in plaster rash when I'm too hot, and my other senses are more sensitive.

On the plus side I don't feel cold, it's not good in a way, because I don't notice when I'm dangerously cold, but it's helpful on a coldish day.

  • Thanks for asking this question its one I have been meaning to ask myself.

  • Yes... I have had this all my life, way over sensitive to cold and way too sensitive to heat, extreme  temperatures are unbearable for me, if I am too hot I have to have a fan on full blast at night if I am too cold I have the electric blanket on full blast and  multiple layers. The strange thing is if I say I am really cold and you check my temperature I usually am around 35 degrees, which is cold when others are 36-37 degrees and the temperature, to them, isn't that cold.

  • yep.  people are always mocking me for having the wrong clothes on for the temperature.
