Hello everyone, diagnosed yesterday with autism and hypermobility, I am looking forward to joining this community and sharing experiences... it’s been a strange journey, my head is buzzing today!
It's not just what you are saying, just find time to get to a place where you feel right about it all too. Best to be settled into the whole situation. I found it a strange period of time just after being diagnosed. You'll work out what's best for you though, no doubt of it!
Thanks so much, will definitely mention this on my next test...
The eyes, well as your ligaments are more " floppy" they don't hold the eye as well as they should., If you get what looks like conjunctivitis you should get it checked as there is something with the membrane that looks like an infection but isnt, we are more likely to get glaucoma and retinal years also I can't remember what it's called but the lens gets thin and bulges. Remember you are not necessarily going to get these but there is a slightly greater chance that you will do you need to look after your eyes.
Thanks Former Member This forum is very helpful...it’s been a strange week for me!
thanks for this, yes, I have stopped telling people now, will wait until I have a better idea of what I am saying.
Thanks for the tip, how does eds affect the eyes? Yes, the lady who assessed me said there is a link between ASD and EDS in that they often occur together
Hi CatAddict,
Welcome!x
Much love <3
I'm self-diagnosed on both fronts, so it's been a case of a lot of internet research to find out what was going on! Yes, there seems to be overlap with quite a few health conditions on this forum actually. My sister had 'joked' that i was on the spectrum for years, but the hypermobility was harder to figure out.
Try not to let it take your feeling of self over. I sort of lost my sense of identity at first but I was never "I have Autism and my name is Cloudy", I've always been "I'm Cloudy and I just happen to have Autism", or as a wise person said "I have ASD, ASD doesn't have me!". I just started to look at things in my past and question a lot of things in my personality. Don't! I've realised speaking to people here and working through things myself that a diagnosis is a good time to keep all the things that work and start using the diagnosis to work on the things I've found challenging.
I'd say come to terms with it first then you will be able to speak about it more clearly. When you first get your diagnosis they will give you a general description of what it entails but you will realise what applies to you. Some people will do their research too. Rome wasn't built in a day! Do everything at a pace that you feel you can handle.
Vivid dreams can mess up a chunk of my day. It carries through into being awake!
Hi yes I have type 3 eds are they saying the 2 are linked?
When you get your eyes checked you must tell them about the eds.
Thanks Cloudy Definitely vivid dreams stay with me, particularly during periods of stress (change). Although my diagnosis is making sense to me, it does not to some of the people in my life, when I try to speak about it I am not doing very well, do you have any tips?
"It's been a long road travelled". Yep that sounds familiar! Trust me you will have a lot of questions you ask yourself at first but after a while so much stuff begins to make sense. I've got to ask, if you have a vivid dream does the feeling stay with you when you wake up? If I have a vivid dream I can wake up to overload.
Welcome!
Hi! Your bio sounds familiar : ) I found out two days ago now, just woke up 3am and had to get up as had a huge rule breaking dream and woke up to a head full of noise and realisations... I think it may be sinking in!
Hello!
Hi Song yes, apparently so, I’m being referred for blood tests for vit D etc, they told me that my autism may mean that I may not have been aware of cues from my body Do you know more about this?
Hi is your hypermobility one of the eds's ?
Thanks! I had suspected I was autistic but had no idea about the hypermobility. Apparently I have had a range of symptoms for decades and not known was all connected, was it the same for you?
Welcome to the forum! There are lots of knowledgeable people on here that will be able to help you with any questions you might have. I have hypermobility too.
