Hi folks,
Today was the first day of my week-long induction into my new job, working as an Individual Support Worker in day services in a local autism charitable trust. It was an interesting, if exhausting day. We all got to introduce ourselves and talk about our experiences with autistic people. I seemed to be the only one who'd worked in care for several years. Many people were completely new to it. It was great to see such enthusiasm, though, for working with people on the spectrum. Most of the people we'll be working with are severely autistic and need 24-hour support.
I was also the only person there with an autism diagnosis, which I mentioned - and which generated a flurry of interest. The trainers would often come to me for perspectives, and most people seemed generally keen to hear of my experiences both through working with autistic people and through my own personal experiences as an autistic person. I think this is really going to be a great place to work!
I was anxious as hell over the weekend - mainly about the journey there. I did a lot of planning, though (my car doesn't have sat-nav) and didn't get lost once, despite a lot of complicated city-centre navigation. I have a hopeless sense of direction, and one wrong turning would have left me in Nightmare-land! I feel so much better now!
How was everyone else's day today?
Tom
Oh no didn't want that sort of explanation or detail. It was just the "safe" word "shell" I meant which was after all in an open post .. Im not good at getting the point at times or when not to say something.. Subject closed. I hope your week starts to get better and you can turn it around. Sounds like you need hugs so sending one.
The explaining bit is all wrapped up in a box at the moment, with an extra layer of wrapping, and a lid quite closely fixed _ sorry Misfit - a bad week, nothing personal.
:(
ok I thought I had crossed the line?off to pickup lovely wife, cat ha soon.
You're fine, stand down, don't stress. I've had a challenging couple of days that's all! Sorry Mr W
Oh? to much? Sorry.
? Explain please...
Glad you Iike the conversations....
Well done BonniePurple. Can't have been easy going into a new role after a couple of months break. I hope you soon settle into it. Must be a relief to have the first day over.
Oh Wow!! I would love to have had a go on the digger and all the other vehicles.. sounds exciting! probably just as well I didn't with my calamity ratings! Ah yes.. I'm sure you have interesting times with an apprentice.. really hard sometimes when teaching to hold back. You must be very patient and very skilled.
no apologies.keep typing I love everyone talking it reassures me.ellie I have an agreement with a young lady at work? I told her I wanted to give her a big hug for being a lovely person, she said ok! I said no as it felt uncomfortable, inappropriate? We agreed that a lingering handshake would be our hug. So lady just for you here's a lingering handshake. Ooh that felt weird just writing that! They are reserved for the ones I call"eyes wide open" types, looking AT the world but not always part of it,we are the mind puppeteers Lol.
Btw would it help to go to your settings and to switch off notifications so you don't feel so overwhelmed?
Sorry about my spam. Spotty Tortoise and I have the safe word "shell"!
hi missy thank you,Ellie you could do my job easy, I once had the honour to have a queue of ladies to educate how to operate a 22ton tracked digger, it was a Marie curie cancer fund raiser, each lady was sponsored to do as many events in the day, diggers, cars, lorries, cranes and loads more,Most women are natural digger operators judging by that day, hardly finished showing them what each lever did when they just got on with it.did that two years running, good memories.
Missy I operated a thirty ton digger with a 32m reach a couple of times.amazing bit of machinery,it had a grab bucket on and all my movements were done blind.we had headsets and microphones,I could not see the banksman or where the digger arm was.very spooky and absolute trust between us both.
I am a Ganger foreman now but drove machines for 18 years, still do now and then.
I have a young man with me today,he has a lot to learn which can be interesting?
Good to hear from you...sorry about all of the posts..take care x
hugs help a lot, thank you xxx
Hi Ellie my keypad seemed to stop responding,iPad touchscreen? The reply box came up here and somewhere else I tried but no letters appearing?
was really trying to talk,no dramas just chat, been catching up on lots of threads, still struggling with new replies appearing everywhere! I will keep trying, only just spotted missy and spotty replies above, recent but in response to missy hours ago.
will try to write soon,my dear lady will need picking up soon from work, yeah she does work late,
big big hugs in case my keyboard stops againxxx
I want to organise a job swap with Mr W
Hope you have had a rest this evening Warrior. Not surprised tired and frustrated but sounds like an important and difficult job. Very big diggers and equipment to be organising and handling. Did you know there is a digger museum up at Threlkeld It's fascinating. www.threlkeldquarryandminingmuseum.co.uk/.../
Are you ok?
You rebel, you!
