Favourite thing

Hi everyone

This is just for fun really but wondered if anyone wanted to share their own favourite things? My favourite thing and top of the list is bedtime, I don’t always sleep amazingly well but on the whole and as long as I stick to my bedtime ritual I do ok.
I have to have a hot water bottle, a pillow under my knees, a huge pillow on top of my body and my audio sleep mask on which I play natural sound for as long as I’m in bed. Those things have really helped me sleep better and I never deviate from my little routine now.
I obviously have other things I love which include journaling, audiobooks, video games and pretty much anything to do with motorcycles and racing.
My children tease me about loving bedtime so much and it’s a standing joke in our house but it’s the one place I feel the safest.

  • Thank you !!

  • Settling down with my noise cancelling headphones and a damn good horror movie. Shut the world out and have some fun. My favourite thing hands down.

  • That’s a cool interest you have there and I really hope you get to enjoy Florida sometime soon!

  • That's understandable. Even though I'm theme park obsessed they still overwhelm me at times. I know some theme parks have certain processes in place to help disabled people but in a lot the support isn't great which needs to change. It's strange how in most circumstances I hate crowds, loud noises and bright lights but I can tolerate them and even enjoy them in theme parks. I think because they're my special interest it helps me to cope and because I've been to so many I know what to expect and do so much research in advance.

  • Florida is my like one of my dream theme park destinations. Defo going to start saving to go in the near future. I think  roller coasters are a sensory seeking thing for me tbh. I love how the forces feel. The incredible hulk recently got retracked in the past few years so it's still highly regarded in the theme park community. Blackpool pleasure beach has some fantastic old school wooden coasters that obviously pass modern safety standards. The big dipper coaster there recently celebrated its 100th birthday.

  • Bedtime rituals really make a difference! I also have a few favorites that help me relax and feel at peace, like journaling and playing video games. It’s great that you’ve found what works for you. Feeling safe and comfortable at bedtime is so important! friv

  • Good advice I shall do that.

  • Pickled onions are really easy to make, you don't need to grow your own, but they're probably better than shop bought ones. Get the recipe from your auntie whilst she's still around, it's this sort of thing that get lost when older relatives pass away.

  • proper old fashioned pickled onions that blow your head off.

Proper pickled onions are fabulous…. My auntie used to do them but she is too old now to grow and produce them but my goodness they were out of this world. The closest thing I can find shop brought is Garners pickled onions (other brands are available) but there is nothing like the real deal. Never heard of green tomato ketchup but I’ve never really had sauces through my life that much.

  • My lava lamps. I find them very relaxingGrin

  • The cupboards are a bit depleted after giving jars away as presents, I do like surprising people with proper old fashioned pickled onions that blow your head off.

I've got a few bottles of green tomato ketchup this year, something I've never made before, it's like a cross between brown sauce and tomato ketchup. Other years I've made damson ketchup, which is just the best brown sauce ever.

Getting proper lables has become problematic the last couple of years, ever since Wilko shut down, I really miss that shop.

  • I love my bed...especially as I enjoy reading my Kindle in the dark...as I can really lose myself into whatever book I am reading...I actually go to bed pretty early - normally just after I take my evening medication, I do my nightly routine, give my cat a few Dreamies and then put my earplugs in, my eye mask on my head (ready to pull down after I finish reading) and then I flip open my Kindle, switch my light off and then curl up under my duvet - normally with my cat laying on my legs lol.

Other than that, I enjoy anything to do with nature, reading both fiction (on my Kindle) and reference books (has to be a physical book and about wildlife), watching certain programmes on the TV, gaming (generally on phone), walking in countryside, cycling (when sunny) and occasionally cooking.

    Mweekie xx

  • It’s hard to settle on one thing, but since I object to calling my lab Kalle a thing, I think this would be a very new thing I got for Christmas. A beautiful stethoscope (Littmann Classic 3 Rainbow edition with engraved name). I hope it‘ll help me to push through my final exams till the Abitur by reminding me of where I want to get.

  • Rally and motor racing sounds amazing. You have some very varied interests. I do like the rollercoasters but as mentioned on here the crowds and noise can be a problem. If I win the lottery I will hire an entire theme park for a day.

  • Now that would be good!

  • Some people consider some stones to have healing properties, but that is not why I have them. I just love the feel, weight and look of natural stone. The calcite stone has a lovely orange glow and feels cool and weighty in the hand. One of my bracelets has malachite beads and they make a beautiful ‘clickety’ sound when I fiddle with it. When I win the lottery (ha ha!), I will have a new home made of natural stone and wood, with a Roman style bathroom of marble. I see you love rollercoasters - that would be my nightmare - but I do share your love of speed, I used to do a bit of rallying and motor racing many moons ago.

  • Bed is amazing (weird how that reverses from childhood!!) ... I enjoy my coin collection, and helping people. I think I get the most satisfying feeling from helping others (mostly those who are important to me)

  • Maybe a heated chain mail blanket for those colder months :)

  • Some stones are very beautiful to look at I agree. Do the stones have healing properties as some crystals can?

  • Sounds amazing. I would imagine the purring would be very satisfying as well.
