The hoover! .
I always put off hoovering because they are so loud and irritating for me. Oversensitivity to sound is unpleasant in many ways but for me, the hoover is the worst sound in the world, followed closely by the sound of babies crying, (sorry babies, I know you can't help it!).
I dust and clean regularly but admittedly I don't hoover as much as I probably should. Today however I decided to be brave and go for it. It was a success. I wore my headphones, I fought back the tears and I put the hoover round. I'll do it again now next year.
One point for TS.
Oh that’s so true, sometimes I get the hoover out, I accidentally sit down, and accidentally look in the direction of the TV, then I accidentally burn an hour accidentally watching it, with the hoover directly in front of my face..
This is so me battybats. I remember feeling terribly excited after purchasing a new vacuum cleaner a few years ago, which included several useful attachments. I am quite certain that if my vacuum cleaner had feelings, it would wonder if it was part of the decor.
Lol this was fab XD
Only while she is at work, she is a District Nurse so sometimes I’m like Mr. Ben. Unfortunately she is a size 7 shoe, I’m a 9. I do get told off for breaking the backs down!
Forgive me for saying this, but I hope this is after you have raided your wife's side of the wardrobe. You can't NOT do the vacuuming and listen to that song without at least making an effort to look the part.
I try not to use the J. Edgar as I unfortunately bought an industrial one and the noise is too much, I have found it better to use my noise cancelling headphones and have a blast of, “ I want to break free,” by Queen.
Brilliant!
If you consider the sound of a vacuum cleaner to be the worst sound in the world, then you definitely wouldn't like the sound of a carpet washer, as they can be even noisier. Rather than wearing headphones, you would probably find yourself wanting to wear a pair of heavy-duty ear defenders instead.
Anyway, well done to you for tackling the vacuuming.
Well done. To an neurotypical that won't seem much but for us it's a big challenge. You should be proud of yourself. I yet to put the hoover round after way too long. I will, I know I will, soon.
I'll take a look on eBay!
Ask to try one in a shop that sells appliances - Currys / PC World springs to mind as a big chain.
Then you can decide if it worth over £100 when you hear it in person,
As an aside, here is a great article about vacuum cleaner noise levels:
https://spotlessvacuum.co.uk/blog/decibels/
and a comparison with Db rating and prices for some UK purchases:
https://reoverview.co.uk/quiet-vacuum-cleaners/
Not all brands/models are on there but it is a good starting point for research.
Well done!
I can just about handle the noise of a hoover because I have control of the switch and know when it's coming. Having good enough executive function to actually get the hoover out in the first place is another matter entirely
Well done. I hate that noise too and only use mine sparingly, which is usually not until the accumulated dust and dirt is so visible it can no longer be ignored
My neighbours seem to hoover at least once a week and that always has me reaching for my noise cancelling headphones. When I was a child we used to have a neighbour who would hoover everyday and I couldn't stand it
My dog would agree with you..
IKR! Why can't these things be made silently? Well, I guess it's likely because they need to make a noise so people know it works proper but even so, spooks me like a dog.
Yes I think I might change model as doing it only twice a year is a bit ridiculous really. I would love a Henry hoover. I'll take a look on eBay!
Yes please, I would buy it without hesitation.
Maybe I should make an easy to use silent hoover?
I used to have one of these 30 years ago when I worked on a mainframe computer - they used to have a vacuum system with ports in the floors of the different rooms (this computer was the size of a football field with all the different bits of it - well it was the 1980s) and all you had to do was plug your hose into a port in the room you were in and you had instant, near silent suction.
Of course the cost to buy a big compressor, air reservoir and plumbing to the whole house may make it a teent bit more expensive than a Dyson, but at least it is quiet.
Maybe I should make an easy to use silent hoover? I might be famous afterwards :p
Yeah, hoovering. No.
Added to the terrible noise is my inability to comprehend anything with moving parts.
How do you get the attachments out? How do they fit together? How does this bit unclip?
Baffling...
Lol congratulations. You're braver than me I haven't used the hoover in ages XD
My mum does the hoovering usually at which point I go in the garden or luck myself in my room. My dad says I'm lazy but it's honestly not that I just can't stand the sound it goes right through me.
Same with the washing machine and my hair dryer.
Oversensitivity to sound is unpleasant in many ways but for me, the hoover is the worst sound in the world
I found that after going from a wet-and-dry model of vacuum to one of those conventional with the face of the front (used to be Happy Henry I think), it was incredible in the difference in noise - so much quieter.
Have you considered changing models?
