Comfort item

I love fiddling with two marbles at work. It’s really discreet and find comfort in the way they roll against each other. You can quickly hide them in your hand if needed plus if anyone ever saw them it’s obvious what they are, but not what they’re for so leads to a lot less questions!

I got rid of all my ‘comfort things’ when I went homeless the first time. I only optimise what I can walk away with, I guess those are ‘comfort things’, but I refer to that stuff as ‘armour’..

That would include: My boots; headphones; under-attire; coat-and-mac combo; my messenger, backpack, and duffle-bag (old-school Trakke); notebook-and-pen; and my phone. All of which are essential and not interchangeable..

When people ask me, unofficially, where I live I say NFA and have done for the past 7 years. My ‘armour’ is a reflection of my belief, that I am insecure, and I would be terrified all-the-time if I didn’t have that secured..

Sorry for the over-share, but I felt I needed to make the distinction, in order to answer..

I have a few cuddlies that I cuddle at night, my favourite being a Plushie Dreadful Goth Bunny I've named Morticia.  I feel young at heart and some things in this world make me feel anxious.  Having a comfort item is great for a lot of us. 

Shard - don't be so sure.  I REALLY had to think what mine was = it's super weird = but it is my comfort item.  Can't share details here.

I personally don’t but it’s probably a slight unconscious echo of infancy. Pacifier, teething, etc. 

I’ve had things in the past.  A special coin, a tiny bean bag, random things that were nice just to rub with my thumb.  I also really like the really soft fake leather bag straps!  I don’t have anything specific at the moment, but it’s nice to have things depending on the situation.

i have a blanket and a dog stuffy that i like the texture of i was wondering if anyone else feels the need to put their comfort item in their mouth bc i do and i don’t know why 

That's sounds comforting. Sound like my scrunchiesthat's how I use them to comfort myself. If it help then that's all that's important.

I recently got some fidget ring things after my therapist chucked one at me one night. Not aggressively I should say. Though I wouldn’t blame her. they’re made in a way that they can be rolled up and down one’s fingers with a slight acupressure effects. Probably similar to your scrunchies effect. 

I see an opportunity.

I have my scrunchies which I can take out my hair anytime and hold and they make me feel comfortable and safe. Ive got my charm bracelet as well. It makes me feel comfortable, I can squeeze itand I always feel better.

‘One month’ - that really drives it home.  

I'd have to say Rubik's Cubes, they're the ultimate fidget toys! If I manage to actually take a proper break at work then this is what I like to do to try to reduce stress.

I have my thumb stone (also known as worry stone and anxiety stone) it comes everywhere with me. I will rub it, move it between my fingers and press it hard against my closed mouth for comfort.

In my room I have a small plush Spitfire, and I like to hold it and to move it's wings across my closed mouth. I use that only in my room.

These are all new items. Prior to them I would just roll my fingers up in my clothes and hold them tightly.

I wear the same clothes all the time.  I have multiple identical sets of the same clothing.  I'm weird, me!

Ouch - you never know when you're going to get caught out unexpectedly like this.  The regulars will know what I speak of !
