Im a late forties Aussie male diagnosed ASD (level 1) two weeks ago and trying to find my way. People have been telling me that I must be Aspergers or asking me if I am Aspergers for roughly the last six years. About six months ago i started thinking maybe they are correct - turns out yes, they were... So here I am!
The name I go by here is from my favourite book series: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which I'm currently reading (again).
I have also been reading posts on this forum and getting a lot from it so far but i have so many questions! I hope to contribute too...
Cheers, Just some guy.
or just added a 2 at the end lol
Faulty Towers is right on the edge of funny/not funny,, some episodes are great but some are almost scary
blimey its really funny. i rewatch some episodes when Netflix hasn't got something available
Never seen the IT Crowd. I'll give it a go.
"Brain the size of a planet, and they got me opening doors" :-)
I'm not a fan of the really old comedy - the Python stuff is unwatchable - but Blackadder and Red Dwarf are still good.
I'm a huge Rick & Morty fan - season 5 starts next week!
Kudos to you if you've recognised your traits and have managed to engineer your life to suit you. It's the big thing that most of us wish we were in the position to do.
A lot of us late-diagnosis auties are already too far down the rabbit hole of job, family, mortgage etc, before we realise we shouldn't have taken that path. I managed to retire out at 49 - but my health has been damaged from the years of stress.
I happened upon the original Just some guy here, so I will change my name to Just some other guy...
Some other British TV shows I'm keen on are Red Dwarf, Blackadder and a more recent one: The IT Crowd.. I tried to watch Fawlty Towers but Basil Fawlty was just to shouty for me...
Ha Ha! Thats so funny. You made me laugh (and snort a little bit)! Strangely Marvin is my favourite character from that series...
Looks like you found something you like!
I loved the TV Sherlock Holmes - the one with Jeremy Brett. Perfect depiction.
Hi there.
You won't read us Vogon poetry, will you?
Just kidding! I love the Hitchiker's Guide.
Welcome
So many JSG. I go through 2-3 a week. Since the start of May, I've got through the complete works of Sherlock Homes, Enid Blytons Famous Five, AA Milne's Winnie The Poo, and now started Douglas Adams!
Top stuff Mykal, I know a few people who enjoy audio books - seems like a good option! I've never tried one - have you listened to many?
Crikey - to the other Just some guy - please let me know if I have stepped on any toes - perhaps IO could change my name to Just some other guy...
Yes - I work full time - its a bit much though. I try to work a 4 day week as much as possible using some of my holiday leave. No pets - I minimise my obligations to minimise my stress! I still have one parent alive but he has dementia - I attempted talking about Autism with him but he didn't get it...
That sounds like a fun outing! I like the TV series too - I have it on DVD. I have never heard the radio series though - might try and track that down on line some time.
we can get it done free here and it takes 2 - 5 years,,,,,
some people pay private and the range is 3 months - 8 months
i think there was another "Just some guy" here some time back in this forum
do you have any pets ?
are you working ?
did u tell your parents / what did they think of your diagnosis ?
I'm a huge fan of the original TV series - it's a shame they never seem to repeat it. We saw the original cast on tour (many years ago) where they performed a condensed version in an evening show - at our local events arena.
Everyone had their towels with them .
Hey, man. I'm reading (listening to the audiobook) to HIGTG too. Greetings back to you from the UK. Diagnosed a few months ago and I'm in my late 40's too.
