Hello~So. I'm new here after accidentally stumbling across it whilst actually looking for something else. But I'm good to say hello, even if I am a bit shy. Hopefully I'll get more brave to join in discussions and stuff later. A little bit about myself: I'm Russell, I'm 32, and I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome in 2016. I work full time as a Postman, and live alone and independently with little help. I have my ups and downs, but don't we all. In my non-working time I'm usually found lazing on the sofa, reading and writing, playing games or watching/playing football. Also spend some time trying to help looking after mother in as much as I can do. So that's me!
I'm sure they think they mean well, at least I hope they do. But it's tricky to explain sometimes, exactly what is causing the stress and agitation to me, and they don't always understand that I don't want or need easier duties, just more settled ones.
so true, about "they dont do it very well"
Yup. When the inspiration, and motivation come together, feel I can do anything. But it's a rare sight to have both, and tends to be pretty fleeting.
Thank you. And yeah. It surprised me a bit, when I read that quite a %age of people don't find it possible to work, but actually, I can completely understand it. It's not easy for me, at times it's been very difficult and I've wanted to pack it all in and hide myself away. But, we do what we must and keep plugging at it. Work have tried at times to be supportive, but they don't always do it very well.
welcome - good to hear u're working.
Thank you~
Welcome!x
I find that too - I just wish I could make the inspiration last longer
Thank you~My writing comes in fits and spurts, and I write bits of everything, short stories, poems, even scripts for the old text adventure style games sometimes. It's a little frustrating because I can't turn it on or off at will, the inspiration or motivation comes or goes with little logic or sense to it. But I enjoy having it when it does come. :)
Hi, Russell. Welcome to the group :) I'm 25 and awaiting an autism diagnosis (it's been over a year of waiting now!). I also love reading and writing :) What kind of writing do you do? I'd love to write a novel someday (and have started quite a few), but poetry comes more naturally to me (probably because I can finish a poem within the window that my short attention span allows!).
Many thanks. Am super glad to hear you're getting help and support you need, and hope all goes well for you all.
Hello Russell, good to meet you! We are new to the group too as a family with our 19 year old son who has recently been diagnosed and we were recommended by a professional to join NAS. The support we are getting as a result has been incredible and is transforming our lives.
