Not giving out personal information!

Okay I've seen a few times now personal photos as profile pictures, and read alot of times people giving what I would say is personal information?

So what are the rules plus when I check the profile bio they don't have any info, and no name just the nas2325 whatever just confused by the paradox and concerned

I have already written my concerns on here before, I feel like people are trying to exploit what we write on here and also trick us into giving information to them.

Who are the people who regulate the forums?

  • I've not filled out mine as due to the scum of this world and my open and trusting nature, I've been targeted many times. I now have major trust issues I trust no one so why would I put it on the world wide web! Anyone can pretend to be anyone they like on here

  • More personal information.

The changing skyline of my home town.

  • Very good.

But no GPS. Information is included to narrow it down.

  •  Isn't the beginning of a February morning lovely taken with an Olympus XZ-2 camera......

    .

  • you've made some very good points.

This morning I typed my real name into google to see what would come up.  Will there be any links to my various pseudonyms around the net?

    I found one  worrying link!

On Flicker i have posted a photograph of a Squirrel under my true name.  I belong to a squirrel shooting photography group.  I think i also posted similar photos on this site a couple of years ago.

  • More personal information about me.

School reports,  the bad one's and good one's,  thirty years apart. With confidential personal information redacted.

  • There will always be people using the internet for less than honest purposes.    Should all users have a competency / fraud awareness course before they are allowed to use it?      You can be a victim of fraud or theft anywhere you go - should people be banned from leaving their house?

Unfortunately, criminals will always exist so all you can do is limit or filter the information you post - and be aware of the cyber-trail you leave behind with every post.

'Big Data' is collecting everything that ever gets posted anywhere and is piecing it together to sell that data  - it's building a profile of everyone so if you think the internet doesn't know who you are, you're wrong.

Your IP address is logged on every site.     Google maps logged the geographical position of every home wifi network.   Your phone is bugging you and logging every journey you take by gps and cell location.

All you can do is be aware of all this and be sensible.   Consider how much detail of your life you give out and how it could be used against you.

  • To Mr.Math-Photographer... I am glad to see You posting as well, Thanks for that upon Your other Thread!

...For some reason, My OLD devices, maybe, the whole time I was here posting this afternoon, I did not see this thread until now. Pfui...

To 'K' and anyone else reading, Mr. Robert123 generally sums it up, there. The thing is, the rule of not posting true pictures of oneself was followed, up until about the start of this Year (2019), when suddenly a lot of people joined and posted pictures of themselves (or presumably pictures of themselves)... or of their children or selfies and stuff like that.

There were so many that NAS seemed to give up upon giving them even a warning. Now these pictures still carry on. BUT - if a FULL name is posted, they *will* still censor that. They remove the last name ("Post edited by moderator" is what they might say.).

  • chicago, north street, #43654

  • View from my living room window.

    Photo taken last winter.

I am expecting trouble from the site moderators for posting this.

  • post me a photo see if i can guess from one photo

  • thats very close to the Art of Doing Nothing - I may adopt it.

  • I think the rules are pretty clear.

Don't give out actual real names, addresses, emails.

But some indirect personal information is tolerated.

I have given out some personal info.  And posted many photographs. And if someone tries hard enough they will probably identify me and where I live.   But...... Why would anyone care enough about me to go to all that effort?

I suspect that as far as social media sites go. This one has a small specialised audience.

  • I haven’t filled in my biographical details because of my CBAS (Can’t Be Arsed Syndrome).
If you don’t post any way of revealing your real world identity on here, no one will be able to exploit you.
I use the same avatar for this forum, another forum, my google account and twitter.
    Maybe I’m living dangerously.
If you spend too much time being paranoid, someone will creep up from behind and get you.
