Fake "LikeBots" As Well As Copybots, now upon this NAS Forum

...The thing is, little things like this, do cause my creaking devices to creak a bit more. The update from NAS back in 2017 nearly totalled one of them. Upon this Device I use now, I had a new trouble starting it up, let alone logging on. I have said very often before, that one day I might stop posting altogether because I lack the (new) Devices to do so.

I am staying, though posting less, but am glad I just happened to see all of this now... but this is the type of "hacking" where if it does get worse, then I would have to delete. It is NOT that bad, yet, so do not worry so much. Time will tell...

I was wondering, since posts are usually automatically tagged with keywords and "related" posts with similar keywords are linked (see example on the right hand side "Related"). Is it possible to write a comparison algorithm for each post to, for example, the top 10 most related posts before it gets finally posted, so that copied posts will not be allowed?

Might not even be a bot. Could just be someone trying to drag up old drama with a new account.

Best just to ignore it all.

DC it's just one of those weird little things that goes on here from time to time. Literally no-one thinks anything bad of you.

I'm wondering, if (1) they are controlling your account to like those posts, or are they (2) creating a new account that copies your username and picture and then liking those posts?

This forum is actually where I learned about the existence of copybots for the first time in my life. I read about posts complaining about copybots shortly after I joined and was quite confused about what they were. But after being on here for so long, these copybot issues come up so frequently that it's a big issue, and everyone is getting tired of them. Other forums seem to not have these problems somehow (I don't know if it's better programming or just moderators deleting them quickly), but these posts trick innocent people into replying to something which is not even relevant. I honestly don't understand WHY people make copybots in the first place.... they don't serve any purpose other than being an annoyance.

Hi DC thank you for starting this thread and seeing your name liking achievements and saying it isn’t actually you doing so.

i counted at least eight today from not many days ago. All liked by the same five names you put up here?

in the distant past nearly all achievements were liked by Hendrow?

he hasn’t to my knowledge been on here for many months if not maybe years?

I did indeed think it possible you liked those who had achieved discussion starter status as you are a very kind person and like to upvote just like me.

...Which explains about FaceBook and Twitter, etc. With regards to This Forum, So far it seems just getting four or five (fake) "likes" upon here, and starting a Thread, this automatically puts a person "within the top 1% of the community"...

Yes, all of what You say is good. I also cannot 'read everything' either. I just happened to see what I saw and then saw all of that... I am not happy about it.

There is something a little bit 'not right' also about this, as I can find very few or no other 'first post achievements' which have received likes.

Like you DC, I would not upvote an achievement like that, to me it just seems a bit unnecessary (the whole achievement thing does anyway but that is another story).

It could be just a software 'blip', but if not it seems quite worrying that this can happen ... and does it also mean that some posts have been up or downvoted in our name without our knowledge.  I cannot pretend I read all posts here so I would not really know whether someone was doing this for me 'by proxy'.

I did not think it was your style DC which is why I brought it to your attention.  And one of the other 'likers' has been dormant for quite a long time so I wonder whether that is really her 'like', as she was merely posting requesting friendship in her posts when she was active.  I would reiterate what I said on the thread that brought this to attention that I am not questioning the right of someone to like anything, just that some of this does not ring true.
