Just wondering if neurodivergence has any impact on sleep patterns (or lack thereof!).
I'm a morning person. I like going to bed early and I simply feel more productive on a morning. Plus, getting to the gym and doing my workout at 6AM ensures that it is nice and quiet - if I tried to go at 8PM the gym would be much busier and increase the friction for me working out.
Simply put, I'm a creature of habit (who isn't?) and I've made mornings work for me.
Great read, thank you for sharing!
I think I read somewhere that 5htp helps with melotonin. I understand ashwaganda or valarian are good to aid sleep. This is not medical advice.
Thanks OOR. I was prescribed mirtazapine at the start of my journey, partly because it’s supposed to have a sedative effect but it didn’t help my sleep at all. I asked about melatonin and was told GPs are very wary of prescribing it because of side effects.
Night owl. If I could I would have lived like bats
Anyone interested, might find this interesting
Love it, I totally agree, morning people always seem to have an holier than thou attitude that I've never understood.
Why are people being told to not to be owls?
A kestrel that goes with the flow of what is expected for a working person coupled with very much night owl tendencies. I miss my younger days of being able to go with my own rhythms. I am fine with early mornings - as long as its of my own accord!
Edit - go with the flow is probably incorrect.
I saw this recently and it really resonated with me. Working hours should work for everyone, not just morning people.

I also got that recommendation but I just haven’t been able to do it
I used to be very much a night owl. But since receiving my autism diagnosis, I've worked hard to build - and stick to - a healthier sleep routine that leaves me feeling much better rested, and less tired and irritable.
Doing that was among the recommendations in my diagnosis report, and also in the first autism self-care book that I bought following my diagnosis.
get up at the crack of sparrow fart
LOL ! Thank you.
I don't do mornings unless I absolutely have to, I spent to many years forcing myself to get up at the crack of sparrow fart for work, children etc to do it voluntarily when I don't have too.
It’s almost the same for me. Although I almost always wake up early, which doesn’t mean that I go to bed early. I don’t feel like a night owl because I’m always tired in the evenings but I also don’t feel like a morning lark because I’m also tired in the mornings. The effects of never really sleeping enough, I guess.
Sometimes i'm fine for an uber early morning, sometimes really happy with an all-nighter and sometimes fine for both on the same day, and into the next. Depends how I'm feeling in the moment and what needs to get done.
