Time and autisim

Do you ver find if there's nothing to do time moves slow and it hurts your brain but if you enjoy something and take the time to enjoy each moment mindfully it slows time down in a fun way where you feel like an hour is a day a day like a week ect

I have tried explaining this to people before everytime its oh yeah time goes slow if you clock watch... I'm not clock watching though I see the clock as I pass that's not clock watching

Or they say oh no time flies when your having fun

And people always describe mindfulness more like taking note of the taste of food never do they seem to mention helping time not fly away  if that makes sense

The fun one is great but the boredom one I could do without

  • ok and don't worry about it I'm here for you we will get through it together all right and I'm new here too

  • Not an error as such, just a variant usage.

  • Presumably because that usage is used by the WHO, for example: "Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a diverse group of conditions. They are characterized by some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication. Other characteristics are atypical patterns of activities and behaviours, such as difficulty with transition from one activity to another, a focus on details and unusual reactions to sensations." This was culled from a WHO website page.

It may also be aimed at including Pervasive Development Disorder and Asperger's.

  • Why is ASD pluralised in that article?

    Such a basic error Astonished

  • Why is ASD pluralised in that article?

    Thinking

  • There is a some evidence for some autistics having problems with their circadian rhythm and biological clocks, and this may possibly affect the perception of the passing of time as well as causing sleep problems. See this paper for example: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/.../

  • you don't like instant coffee so that's ok and we can still be friends and my mom not a big coffee drinker at all and maybe me and you can still drink coffee together

  • My Ex used to say that they will write on my grave, "As in life, the late I Sperg..."

  • This is the thing really time going fast can be not looking at the clock as much bit for me it's that I can either get fed up so i perceive more time existing as it were or the same thing but because I can absorb a fun activity as if it were new so it's like my brain is processing everything and taking it all in what sucks though is thos on occasion can lead to overload

  • Same. I don't feel time go slow, go fast, or medium-paced. I just keep chugging on the imaginary train of existence and time. Time can only move forwards, and remains constant. Any feelings of speed is up to perception and perspective. Time is a sad thing. It makes human goals feel real, but it ends many great things.

  • Sometimes I can judge time if you get what I mean like I'll be awake in bed and I'll struggle to sleep and i will guess its 1.30 and it  is but it's not even like it's a gift because it only happens in set situations I cant gauge how long a movie is or anything

Tbh time is a man made thing it's really just a measurement of sun moon cycles so in places where the sun never sets or rises properly or during winter it's always not really going to be accurate it's just a man made concept so things like jobs can work other wise it would be like you csnt go home till you serve 10000 customers lol

  • My whole relationship with "time" in general, is super-weird.  I don't appear to "experience" "time" like "normal" people, whether ND or NT.  This feature of my life experience is NOT helpful, nor useful......it is merely a fact that confounds my understanding and keeps me "otherly."

  • When I'm busy time speeds up so yes I think add/adhd could be a possibility if being busy makes time slow

For me time slows due to not being busy or because I take time to be mindful of what I'm doing

  • I have one of those bean to cup machines and it's a godsend, as I hate instant coffee, it just have a weird taste (even the more expensive ones).

I start work at 6am and I take a "cup" with me, it holds about a mug and a half. It's probably around 5 shots of espresso in total. I'll drink it over a 3 hour period. Then a have a normal mug when I get in which is around 3pm.

I don't get a buzz, if I have too much I just feel sick.

  • That's amazing! I seem to be very sensitive to caffeine these days and can't really drink any with out getting the jitters and not being able to sleep, which is a shame because I used to *love* a bit of a coffee buzz.

  • I'm a coffee drinker too and maybe we can get to know each other better and how many cups of coffee do you drink the morning I drink about 2 or 3 cups a day

  • I've found when I'm stressed and too busy time seems to slow down. It's the same after I drink coffee. Maybe I've got some ADD in here as well.
