Hi thought i’d start a positive tread.
We often are told or feel like autism is full of negatives and although it can make things more much more difficult or put at as a disadvantage in some situations. I do also believe it can come with great strengths and positives too.
Feel free to list some of yours, it would be great to read them!
Mine are…
1. Amazing sense of direction and navigation
2. Good with animals
3. Good in emergencies or instances where you need to think quick and logically
I am quite intelligent with strong opinions. I don't think that's respected anymore. By either NT's or Autistic people. It's more of a source of discord and worry for them. It's hard for me to see positives about my Autism. It's an albatross around my neck that is slowly sinking me.
I found this video on YouTube in which a wonderful young girl expounds all the things she wished she’d said before about her autism. I found it around the time I was diagnosed and it was exactly what I needed at that moment.
I just wish I’d known about my condition when I was her age.

Absolutely! I completely understand!
I flipping saviour - from my perspective mate !
That’s great Number! Autistic discovery is so important!
I love being autistic!
…This list is just the start of why I love being autistic!
Must admit, this is something I'm rubbish at haha.
Yeah, me too!

LOL
ps. I removed the spider emoji originally there out of 'kindness'.
I am also terrible at this. If I cant see the location from where I am, then I cant get there without a map. Im not really sure why though because I have fantastic ability to form things in my mind and move them around and take them apart, etc, which actually might be the reason why im bad at directions because when im living life I veiw it from like 3 different angles/perspectives all at once so left could actually by up, or right is left. I dont know if this makes sence. I also have no sense of time so I cant know how long it takes to get somewhere.
Knowing why I am how I am.
Very good in a crisis - probably because I have already considered 99% of any possible outcomes in a given situation.
Organised and good attention to detail.
great thread! The ones that come to mind right away are
very good lateral thinking
very logical
very aware of micro expressions and gestures, I think this one is from learning to be very highly masked from a really young age, I don't always know what the expressions and gestures mean but I notice them so I'm really good at spotting someone who is lying or trying to deceive for example
good at teaching people things because I over explain everything and put it in as many different learning styles as I can lol! I'm also extremely patient when teaching anyone anything
puzzle solving
I think it may be linked to visual thinking which is common in autists. I have a sort of built-in Google maps

Good idea! This makes a good stance over the "ASD as a disability" thread that's caused quite a lot of debate!
For me, I'd say the benefits are:
I also have a habit of honestly appraising situations, although I think some people find that a bit disarming. I'm quite frank and open in the way human society works, but it's not always what people want to hear. For me, I think that's a good thing as it provides me with a great deal of calm with my outlook on life. I don't take things seriously (money, power, career status etc.).
