Autism Friendships

I was chatting with my autism specialist today and she confirmed something I’ve suspected for a while... people on the spectrum tend to get on better with others on the spectrum! I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m a social disaster on all levels, but I guess it would be nice to chat with people who share similar issues. The problem I have is that my interests are pretty niche - for example wildlife, aviation and history... not exactly the stereotypical young adult male interests. I’m guessing others share this problem... or maybe not. I dunno :-/

Not sure what I’m getting at but sometimes it’s good to just air your thoughts.

Parents
  • Yeah I know what you mean, I also love history. Wildlife and aviation are also good topics for me. I also like reading about science and maths. I've just started reading a fictionalised account of the war of the roses. Which is so enjoyable. What I've done is immerse myself in my interests. I've tried to be a norm, but now it's time for me to enjoy myself. And if that's reading for an hour every night then so be it.

  • Fictionalised counts can be interesting - I often go over on my head how things might have turned out if you tweak ineveff vs ent in history. So what historical eras interest you most?

  • At the moment it's the whole French revolution and napoleon era. Yeah have you seen the man in the high tower TV series that's very interesting?

There's so many times in history that could've changed quite easily.

  • It clearly wasSmirk cat, you repeatedly told me you had an a level in history. You claimed you knew more than me about my own hypothetical scenario. You called me a fascist and a communist and other things because I don't believe in the same things as you. So what if I think capital punishment should be reintroduced in the most extreme circumstances. It doesn't mean you should mock me and my political viewpoints.

  • This is going around in circles. Talking down to you was never my intention but clearly you've interpreted it as such. We've all got different viewpoints, I would struggle to understand why such a learned gentleman would still believe in capital punishment and yes, you were talking hypothetically which, yes, would not discount any situation and perhaps I was putting too much of an emphasis on things I found and still find of particular interest. I am fascinated by anything after the Berlin conference which calved up Africa because the markets in Europe were down but as plastic says, line drawn, I'm going to get on with my pencil portraits.

  • Wow yeah you're such an expert on everything you're definitely right. I'm so offended you'd say this, the autism spectrum covers so many people. You of all people should know this

  • Oh thanks, if you purchase me a ticket I'd gladly get as far away from you as possible.

  • Just a note, I haven't discussed my view on history. What my friend and I were talking about was fictionalised accounts of history. And we were discussing hypothetical scenarios. You've completely missed the point. You were talking down to me, you thought because you have a history a level my thoughts on a hypothetical scenario were incorrect. You are entitled to your opinion, but so am I. Now that is really fascist, not being allowed to have an opinion.

  • I think Rashford is an imposter....? Not even ASD? Just a fake trolling kid.

It's fine to have strong opinions but do you really need to keep attacking 24hrs later?     Let it go......

  • I mentioned a few days ago - when you come up against people with 180 degree opposite opinions on the interwebs, just let the thread die on its own - it's not worth the fight.    It's no reason to walk away from the forum - there's lots of more useful threads on here.

  • I just find it interesting that autistic people often have a tough time interpreting what people say at the best of times but they both (Autism friendships in action I suppose) seem incredibly quick to interpret what I've said as some sense of superiority. I don't mention my qualifications in my profile, I don't mention them as they're not relevant.....except when challenged but yep. Strange.

  • I think Rashford is an imposter....? Not even ASD? Just a fake trolling kid.

  • I think you should be locked up - in a Prison somewhere in the devoloping world, say, Iran. Then you'll see youre own BS in action.

  • Problem is - these kids only know hate and anger. It is programmed into them by algorithm bias and semiosis. By their own generation of controllers - the millenials who wrote these algorithm also only know hate and anger. They are the puppet masters in todays platos cave and the cave dwellers - the millenials brought up by the puppet algorithms, only see shadows projected on the wall they are chained infront of.

They think they are making their own decisions and choices but they cant - because their minds have been hacked.

  • Well, I've asked the NAS to delete my profile as clearly these two are perfectly happy to insult someone else but get upset if someone says something they disagree with. I was never knowingly talking down to anyone. It looks to me like someone is obsessed with his view of history and hates to be challenged on it....that's not really particularly academic. But either way, they've both reported me and I've just told those checking it to look at the logs to see I didn't throw any personal insults like "ooohh P.hd friend" or "looks like he's read some books". I assumed this was a support forum for people diagnosed with autism and not some place to have a slanging match.

  • Hey guys

Whilst I'm enjoying the back-n-forth, this level of bashing each other is best done in a pub, face to face with a beer when I think you'd take it much lighter and more humorously with each other - in typed words on a forum, it can be taken as quite nasty.

    Just sayin'...

  • You're a hippie, just let everyone free from the prisons, that's what you'll be saying next.

  • Nonsense, absolute nonsense! Are you high? Oh dear I bet you're a remainer still bitter that we've left the EU. Leaving the EU makes me, and many others financially better off, so I'm happy about it.

Remainers like you don't realise that people wanted to leave the EU a long time ago. The wasn't an overnight thing where we followed Farage because of a few things he said. My family would often talk about the mismanaged EU budget, wasting our contributions on huge buildings in Brussels. The ECJ, which overrides UK law, couldn't let us set our own laws. And lastly there were unelected officials in charge of the whole parliament. You talk about fascism and communism, the EU isn't far away from either of these.

  • No, you're wrong on all counts! You're taking this way too seriously. This was a nice discussion about hypothetical historical scenarios. You're talking absolute nonsense if you think you know everything about me from a few comments I made

  • Old enough to know more than digitalised culture I would imagine, unlike a perosn who has been brought up by an algorithm. LOL

  • Millenial snowflake fascist.... I actually think most of the issues in today's society are cause by you guys - if not all of them.

  • Millenial Snowflake who wants communism. Ha! You kids really do mke me chuckle. Its not just asd millenials - its virtually all of you lot. Fascism seems attractive - of course it does. The evil always looks attractive at first. I suppose you're a fan of the Brexit Tories too and fell for their trap and now suffer because of it but think its the way forward.

  • "because it's my system".....and you ask me how old I am? Anyhow, As I haven't been on this site for more than a few weeks, I suppose I didn't join this forum to pick a fight with a bullying troll....such a "positive person". I would hope no one did. But then, that's clearly the type who run this forum. Sad really.
