Great to have this positive coverage in the Guardian but do others find it very disturbing that a national newspaper is using the puzzle piece to depict autistic people?

After seeing edd shearns puzzle Tattoo maybe not haha looked like a 12 year drew his ink
I think that is a lost cause, despite many non-Nazi swastika representations being in reverse. The symbol is far from being limited to Hinduism, it is and was found in places far from the Indian sub-continent. The oldest representation known is around 15,000 years old.
Every piece of Nazi imagery was stolen from established world symbolism - the were like the first Apple, they invented nothing.
Swasti or Swastika
Oh thanks for this post. It's interesting and I wasn't aware of this!!! :-)

The Swasti or Swastika was hijacked by the German Nazi party from Hinduism. The Swasti is a symbol of good fortune and the entire planet has a responsibility to help Hindus reclaim their symbol of good fortune.

I think that no matter what symbol is used, it will frustrate some people because of their own perception. I guess everyone has their own idea of what's acceptable and not so much. There will always be a need to debate and change things but no matter how hard anyone tried and wants it to be so, not everyone can be pleased at the same time. An example: If the symbol was changed to something else, whatever that may be, some people would be upset. This could be because some people liked the original symbol and didn't want a change or because they take exception to the new representation. Personally I think the picture is pretty cool in an artistic sense and is an attempt to show different brains in a novel way. It's simple and is trying to encompass everyone. I'd change the colours because I don't like certain colours which in itself is an illustration of not being able to please everything in everyone. :-)
Honestly, I love this symbol. However, there are a lot of ideological beliefs about the puzzle piece. Those who support the symbol wish to believe — that it is part of a search for answers and that if they find that answer, it will improve the lives of autistic people. However, the reality is that the symbol damages the discourse around Autism while being widely considered offensive to autistic people. I also saw this symbol in free jigsaw puzzles online. Maybe it would be better if they proposed another symbol.
Personally I think it would make for a cool tattoo as well but I get why it's puzzle peace's because of like trying to understand your autism in the 1st places like putting together a puzzle rather than trying to fix it which is why I think some egt offended as they take it the wrong way but doesn't phase me at all
I agree, the innacurate terminology leads to unnecessary stigma and isolation.
Especially as Martin used it... I was going to delete it in disgrace
When the word 'symptoms' is said it honestly sounds like we are people with a contageous disease like covid or something.
so weak... ;)
yeh, I'm puzzled...
I think I'm the same as you. I can't actually work out the bit that is offensive but I am no good at this type of thing.
I am entirely unoffended by puzzle pieces, they ain't swastikas. I have had a lifetime of being puzzled by my sensory issues and my problems communicating with, and connecting to, other people, so a puzzle piece seems quite appropriate.
Not sure why it's our orginal symbol but there's contraversy amoungst NT's ironically on weather it's politically correct as always political correctness only applies to those who are normal haha well as in there the only ones who find it politically insentive when I personally as an ASD don't. Are autistisc rights movement symbol is the infinity loop which I'm not sure why as the infinity loop in Norse mythology represents eternal love between mother and child so *** knows how's that's relatble if anything that's the more confusing one.
