I love Christmas I can’t wait
I'm fascinated to see how Christmas will be different this year.
All year it's been chaos and government U turns.
The shops are now gradually reopening and there are plenty of Christmas decorations for sale. In my neck of the woods Christmas lights (as usual) have been turned on in the streets.
We are about to exit 'lockdown lite' and enter lockdown tier 3. I'm waiting to see what this means in reality.
I'm still disappointed by the weepy TV Christmas films. The two that I like are. National Lampoon's Christmas vacation, and the Office Christmas party.
Why does anybody need to worry about Christmas TV nowadays when we have Netflix and YouTube?
I spent an entire Boxing day as a kid watching documentaries about ancient Egypt on History Channel - back when History Channel actually showed programmes about history.
because some people still have nothing but a tv !
thanks for that
Your nearly right.
The criteria is you need a licence to watch or record any live program on any device.
Do I need a TV Licence to watch streaming services like Netflix, Amazon or Now TV? - TV Licensing
Sometimes I feel like that too. Going a bit tangential here but I watch old episodes of "The Office" and feel comfortable. The tucked in shirts, ties, staid style. Nowadays even office workers look hi-tech and cool, some of them wear T-shirts and they all have them lanyards hanging around their necks with a photo ID. It all seems very weird now, how things are.
It feels very cruel to me that our law still allows people to be prosecuted for not having a TV license or watching without one when we live in a digital, globalized world now.
Life has become very complex. I don't feel I fit any more
ok i would have to remove my cable,,,, i'll review what i watch to see how much live TV i watch thanks with the money saved i can get an annual amazon subscription
Wrong. You don't need a TV licence unless you connect the TV to an aerial (or satellite or cable receiver) and tune it in.
A TV - with a built in Freeview tuner - used to watch DVDs, Netflix, YouTube, or with a game console does not require a TV licence.
Yeah you’ll love it.
thats ok but i may be able to not pay one -
just worked out unless i buy a huge monitor i can't do it as my tv can receive and thats enough to need a license
I do pay my TV licence.
I have a smartphone with decent, fast,4G, internet access.
theres more ---- its really tricky
For example, you don’t need a TV licence to watch movies and TV programmes on DVD or Blu-ray, or streamed from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Now TV, YouTube and similar services … unless they stream live TV.
You don’t need a TV licence to watch programmes on catch-up TV services, with the exception of the BBC’s iPlayer. You can watch anything stored on services such as ITV Hub, All 4 and My5, as long as you don’t watch live TV. These services are, after all, paid for by advertising.
However, you do need a TV licence to use the BBC’s advert-free iPlayer catch-up service. In this case, you’re paying the BBC because you are consuming BBC content.
just found out
If you start streaming TV programmes just after it has ended, you don’t need a licence.
got this from BBC licensing - i am very close to this i may be able to stop paying for a license
