Noise Cancelling headphones

Hi

I'm finding the lockdown difficult with my noisy neighbours. Can anyone recommend good noise cancelling headphones? I think they could get me through the lockdown without having a meltdown.

  • Hello Kit McDaydream,

Just seen one of your posts about trying to edit a post. I didn’t know how to do that either. But it can be done. Once you have posted something, if you want to edit it? Just click on ( more ) which is highlighted in purple at the bottom of the post. Then you can delete parts of it, or add bits in. Then press the reply button, and it should change it straight away Slight smile

  • There seems to be no ability to edit posts after you sent them? or maybe I just can't find the menu!!

Really annoyed that the Rose Gold one's that would match my Macbook and iPhone have the damn Alexa built in too! Anyone know if you can at least turn the feature off if you don't have any Amazon listening devices in the house at all?

Assuming there's no way they could activate them externally if you don't have any other Amazon Alexa devices in the house for the headphones to connect to?

  • oh the sony ones have amazon Alexa so do the Bose ones! Any WITHOUT amazon Alexa as have an intense dislike for Amazon's listening devices in my home. or do Amazon have complete control over this market too?

  • Hi

Anyone know which headphones are best for particuarly cancelling out the higher pitched noises or just muffling them a lot?  I have to use a mobility scooter which makes a kind of higher pitched whine especially trying to get up big hills.

Also to block out noises when battery goes in fire alarm at night and it makes that annoying high pitched single shrill high pitched beep every few minutes.  (I live on own and can't always get someone out immediately to change the battery) but it's one of the noises that trigger meltdown for me. I end up having to cut power off at mains to the room/area the alarm is in.

Also ..does the noise cancelling feature only work if the batteries are charged on them?  and how does the bluetooth work so I could have a CD player on in another room with bluetooth facility to hear the music from another room with the headphones on?  (or sat outside in the garden).

    Thanks

    Kit

  • Oh thank you for recommend will check these out too. I think I might need them over the next wee while as I am feeling anxious about noise.

  • I would shutdown with one of those noises. Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Yep totally agree, it’s more noisy under the lockdown than it normally is. I’ve got one neighbour cutting the grass, the other one jet washing, which he’s been doing for weeks! Someone else is building a shed, or a mansion by how long it’s taking Rolling eyes  Too noisy for my liking. I’ve already been for my walk today as well.

  • Seriously glad to read this thread and info about headphones. Really struggling with all the neighbours at home with this lockdown. Where have all these people come from ! I only go out in the outer world twice a day to walk my dog and normally don’t see or hear anyone. Now it’s chaotic. There are people in the village I have never even seen before. Tried putting cotton wool in my ears but all I could hear was a fuzzy drone which was just as irritating and stressful. Now it’s sunny can’t even leave my back door open or go in the garden for noisy garden machines and loud voices. So will definitely look into getting some earbud headphones. I don’t want to play music just shut out noise so I guess the ones mentioned do that.

  • I can heartily recommend Sony WH-100xm3 headphones. Again expensive (around £250) but worth it (and slightly cheaper than the Bose ones). I didn't know if headphones would work for me but they make a surprising difference, especially at work. You can also control the amount of ambient sound that gets through (via a mobile app) if you don't want complete noise cancelling :)

  • All of that and then the wife says.. I cant hear the telly can you turn it up..aaahhhh..

  • I have never tried proper noise cancelling ones with the microphone and reverse soundwave, but I find earphones with the bigger rubber buds good for blocking most noise out

  • Oh plus lawnmowers, strimmers, and a power tool

  • I've just ordered new beats. The earbud type. I dont really have 90 pounds spare but I ended up shutting down earlier.

My husband had 2 radios on, one neighbour revving his car constantly, another neighbour drilling, another neighbour learning piano, dogs barking, people chatting as next door insist on having friends over.

I went out the front garden as its slightly quieter and another nrighbour came to chat. Then this shouty woman turned up in her car to talk to someone in their garden.

The druggies yelling from the flats in the next road.

I hid under my duvet for ages in shutdown;( I need my headphones back.

Then our neighbour was playing piano again until 10.30pm!

  • Yes I always wear earplugs to bed as I'm easily disturbed.

  • Joy Sorry about that. We’re lucky today in the south of England because it’s very warm. But getting back to your issue. You can actually buy ear plug things, they’re like little bits of foam that you put in your ears. But I couldn’t get on with those to be honest, they felt weird in my ears. Sorry for your situation, it’s a horrible thing to have noisy neighbours. I seem to get bothered by the slightest noise when I’m trying to sleep.

  • They like music on at night. Frowning2️ also it's not that hot up here in Scotland. Joy

  • Hello there,

It’s so annoying isn’t it? I keep getting annoyed with one of my noisy neighbours. I’m convincing myself that he’s just making jobs for the sake of it, because he’s bored. It’s like a building site with all the sawing going on Triumph And because it’s hot at the moment, I don’t really want to close the window. All I can suggest is, maybe put some music on just to take your mind off it. I hope it’s just a daytime thing? So it doesn’t bother you at night also?
