Hi I have been diagnosed with mental health problems most of my life and have a son with HF ASD. The more I read about ASD, the more I think that I may have traits. Can anyone enlighten me on the main differences between male/female indicators. Me and my son have a fantastic relationship, he is clever, witty and caring which some people don’t think fit in with the stereotype. Maybe I don’t fit in with the stereotype either - but have not really ever identified with any specific group. The say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree :)

Tania Marshall is produced a very good checklist...
funny story....I was sat at work with it and a highlighter pen and a work colleague said.. “ I don’t know what you’re reading but you are only meant to use a highlighter to select key points...not all of the text”..... nuff said!

Great stuff - my 15 yr old ASD son helped an elderly lady over the road today. I feel very proud! Anyone who says people with asd don’t have empathy are wrong. He was very touched when the lady called him John which I guess could have been her son’s name.
.....he’s just jealous! As NT he can’t be as brilliant as us weirdos!
That’s a politer version than my husband who called me a “crazy woman”! Lol....and I was paraphrasing!
Haha my fella says it about me. It’s a local saying for ‘not quite normal’.

According to Henry and Camilla Markrams Intense World Syndrome theory (2007):
The intense world that the autistic person faces could easily become aversive if the amygdala and related emotional areas are affected with hyper-reactivity and hyper-plasticity. The lack of social interaction in autism may therefore not be because of deficits in the ability to process social and emotional cues as previously thought, but because a subset of cues are overly intense, compulsively attended to, excessively processed, and remembered with frightening clarity and intensity. Autistic people may therefore neither be mind-blind at all nor lack empathy for others, but be hyper-aware of selected fragments of the mind, which may be so intense that they avoid eye contact, withdraw from social interactions and stop communicating.
