Hi, I’m new to the forum and want to know if there are any women here online (I’m a female professional in my early 40s). From reading some posts you are out there but kind of in the minority....I am hoping to seek diagnosis very soon and would appreciate knowing I’m not alone out here..! Thank you
Greetings to Leeeeeeen (!)...
If you want to try to "make friends", you may go to your own Profile, and check that, and there is a row of options including "Friends", and click upon that, and if anyone else is listed, then click upon them, and they must request friendship back at you. (Or something.)
Also, to request Friendship, be logged in, click upon anyone else's name that you like, and request Friendship at them.
...NOTE!: I myself cannot first-hand guide you or anyone through this process, however, because I cannot EMail or PM (Private Message) anymore, sorry! Preferably someone else reading this may give you better information than this here, however... and make "friends" with you...? Good Fortune to Yourself, in any case.
I have set up another thread.. are they any women here. #2/if that helps
Under "adults"? I don't see how you can navigate on this forum ... Help ...
And how to make friends (hard enough in real life, haha) is also unclear to me.
Dazed and confused ...
I've never had an answer from the Mods on anything.
It almost might be a good idea to ask the Mods if under "adults" they could make a specific Female Autism corner - where we could post all questions relating to women and ASD.
Hi Bonniepurple. This thread has become very 'branchy' and confusing to navigate. Might it be better / easier to start an 'Are there any women here #2'?
Me! I’m female and 36. I’m on the waiting list for an assessment via the NHS, and I’m just starting to go public now.
Hi Spotty....nice to meet a fellow tree branch.... hope you’re ok and hanging on even though things are tough for you at the moment x
Hahaha, I've been clicking on them not realising what they were really for too! Good to know, thank you!
Fantastic, thank you! I'd forgotten about the Cynthia Kim one, I will definitely check that out
Thx for the compliment :-) I find tiddling away with a quarter of my fingertip surface on a phone a real trial too - and my arms get tired. To add to the smart - my eyesight has come out of the closet as being 40+ Typing on a computer is much better - although then I tend to use too many words in a short space of time and possibly not enough reflection.
I'm so sorry you are having a hard time with everything. Are they making you wait long?
Very well explained Procrastinator! It's very confusing and much rasier to 'see' and understand on a desktop or laptop than on a mobile device. Frankly I don't know how anyone manages on just a mobile device.
Hello all new people! I'm 49 and awaiting diagnosis having a hard time with everything.
Thank you Procrastinator, I totally now understand how to reply properly and what has happened to other replies that have gone 'missing' they're lost in the branches.
If you want to reply to the "main topic" you need to press their reply button. So if you want to reply to Talented Mute's original post about being new and wondering if there are any other ASD women - you need to hit the reply button immediately under her original post.
Two days ago NAS36625 answered the original post saying she is female too from uk. Then ASDxx2 also said hi, saying she is female too and newish, she hit the reply button under NAS3665's post. So she didn't reply to Talented mute's original post. So her hello won't be one of the main answers but is a "sub-answer" to the main thread. Tabatha, you replied to ASDx2. And I am replying to you.The reply "thread" should not be called "threads" but "branches". The main post is the tree trunk. Then you have the large branches (the immediate answers to the main question) and then it branches off endlessly. If you come into the conversation on the small branches, it gets really confusing and impossible to retrieve!!!
I’m constantly trying to figervout how to use this forum, I get so muddled about were to put reply’s and follow threads? Any tips from those that use it regularly and have learned. How it works?
It Is a pity that the user interface isn’t very structured, user-friendly, clear and lacks overview. It also puts me off. It is very hard to keep track of the discussion. I regard the votes as likes but it is weird that this heightens your status m the community. Strange...
Votes? I'm also still trying to figure it all out ...
Thank you Picard and nice to know I'm not the only one who can't work out if I'm replying properly or not, also just realised (as logged into laptop and not on phone) that the number with arrows up and down mean votes I thought that was replies to a thread so have been clicking up and down to try and find them..oops
Hi Picard....
In tems if reading I started with the Tania Marshall checklist for women
https://taniaannmarshall.wordpress.com/2013/03/26/moving-towards-a-female-profile-the-unique-characteristics-abilities-and-talents-of-asperwomen-adult-women-with-asperger-syndrome/
Then read Cynthia Kim’s “Nerdy, why and socially inappropriate”.... good practice advice and talks practical day to day living which makes it accessible.... review here... https://psychcentral.com/lib/nerdy-shy-socially-inappropriate-a-user-guide-to-an-asperger-life/
and.. Laura James - Odd Girl Out..
then read.. “twirling naked in the street, and no one noticed” by an American author...again talks about growing up bring different....childhood, school, work, relationships etc
hope that helps
I love the fact that you can totally connect with your daughter and that you are each able to identify with each other...this is your gift...to understand your children...and I’m sure that they love you dearly...x
keep being you...keep fighting those that need to be fought....I hope that it also helps to make you feel empowered..
keep being you girl
