An informal thread for all misfired and miswired women on the spectrum...,(and guests). A new thread as we can chat away but are not so good tidying up after ourselves....too busy being awesome..,,
This is a new iteration of many long and warm and welcoming contributions. This is a happy and supportive place x
thanks Missy x
Just found a great podcast; The Courage Makers
; the link can be found on this website
https://thathummingbirdlife.com/
Meg interviews women to show different sorts of every day courage to uplift us. Not hotshot superwoman stories but quietly or not so quietly getting on with your stuff courage. I’ve only listened to one or two but think I will be listening to more. On it there are links to the women she talks to if something appeals to you.
seems to me you’ve arrived at the right forum and will fit right in! Carry on posting!
Thank you....hope you’re ok...btw
Fabulous, thanks Elie X
Thank you so much for your help and advice. I have read the articles you have suggested and found them very interesting and have downloaded Aspien Woman on Kindle from Amazon. I have just taken the Aspergers test and got 28 which isn’t really high but indicates ASD traits. I didn’t associate as much with the test as I did with the other literature you suggested. I am very messy and disorganised and have trouble facing people at times. I feel that I have to psych myself up to face people and have developed some interesting avoidance techniques over the years. I often say the wrong thing, then really beat myself up about it afterwards and feel like it’s the end of the world! If I think I’ve hurt someone or something, I feel physically sick. I also get the ‘social hangovers’ as described. I’ve never really fitted in - as a child or adult - school gate cliques of Mums used to drive me potty with their “he said/ she said/ look at what she’s wearing!” rubbish. Oh I could go on but I think that’s probably bored everyone to death already. I think I need a shrink.
.....he’s just jealous! As NT he can’t be as brilliant as us weirdos!
That’s a politer version than my husband who called me a “crazy woman”! Lol....and I was paraphrasing!
Haha my fella says it about me. It’s a local saying for ‘not quite normal’.
STOP PRESS!... Laura James (Odd Girl Out) just tweeted about this! Autism workshops for women

Live the name by the way! .....Loosely Wrapped but not quite enough protection to be bubble wrapped ;) x
Yes it does make sense
that is really sweet about you son.....about empathy....does this make sense?
According to Henry and Camilla Markrams Intense World Syndrome theory (2007):
The intense world that the autistic person faces could easily become aversive if the amygdala and related emotional areas are affected with hyper-reactivity and hyper-plasticity. The lack of social interaction in autism may therefore not be because of deficits in the ability to process social and emotional cues as previously thought, but because a subset of cues are overly intense, compulsively attended to, excessively processed, and remembered with frightening clarity and intensity. Autistic people may therefore neither be mind-blind at all nor lack empathy for others, but be hyper-aware of selected fragments of the mind, which may be so intense that they avoid eye contact, withdraw from social interactions and stop communicating.

Happy Wednesday
Hi
thank you for you thoughtful and prompt reply. It’s a really good read and have downloaded a sample of her book to try. It is really making me think.
Great stuff - my 15 yr old ASD son helped an elderly lady over the road today. I feel very proud! Anyone who says people with asd don’t have empathy are wrong. He was very touched when the lady called him John which I guess could have been her son’s name.
Thank you Katfish.
Thank you Ellie.
Hi Fuchsia
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not surprised you are shattered. Glad to hear that your family are supportive.

Hello 35521!
i found this very help as a reference and identified with it a lot.
https://taniaannmarshall.wordpress.com/2013/03/26/moving-towards-a-female-profile-the-unique-characteristics-abilities-and-talents-of-asperwomen-adult-women-with-asperger-syndrome/
Tania Marshall is produced a very good checklist...
funny story....I was sat at work with it and a highlighter pen and a work colleague said.. “ I don’t know what you’re reading but you are only meant to use a highlighter to select key points...not all of the text”..... nuff said!
anyhow...I hope it helps x
Hi I have been diagnosed with mental health problems most of my life and have a son with HF ASD. The more I read about ASD, the more I think that I may have traits. Can anyone enlighten me on the main differences between male/female indicators. Me and my son have a fantastic relationship, he is clever, witty and caring which some people don’t think fit in with the stereotype. Maybe I don’t fit in with the stereotype either - but have not really ever identified with any specific group. The say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree :)
Big love to you Fuchsia x
