....aka Battle Of The Borage
There have been rumblings for the past week or so but I thought now would be as good a time as any to get the show started. Today I sowed between 16 and 20 seeds.
I thought it might be nice for any members who want to join in to sow borage seeds and chat about it. We all know bees and pollinators need a helping hand and this is a lovely plant we can have in our gardens to help. The flowers are pretty star shaped blue, sometimes pink or purple. You can eat the flowers or put in ice cubes and you can use the leaves to make borage fertiliser for the garden.
I thought it might be a nice way to unite online friends by doing something remote in real life.
It does self seed so I take no responsibility if you end up with more next year! The more the merrier. Apologies if you have no outdoor space. Maybe do a bit of guerilla gardening if you can
This post was inspired by Jamie (who I cannot tag for some reason) and Number
So lets help our wildlife!
"No-one can do everything but everyone can do something".
Monty would be proud (Don). I just shoved mine in a bit of compost and hoped for the best.
Mixed my growing medium (proprietary secret....but it involves unicorns and rocking chairs)
Selected my favourite 30 seeds from the pack of 70 and planted them - with love in my heart.
Inspected the bee holes (9 found) all over the lawn - speaking out loud that "I love you all."
Saw 5 bees whilst "doing" the borage planting ceremony.
It's strange, my neighbours seem to view me with some considerable suspicion.
Night shade! (Botanical themed "banter")
If you say that thrice on a full moon he comes back from the dead
I'm glad someone does. Well sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Tonight I do!
No worries Number. I completely understand people avoiding it
Perhaps its the echoes......"Mary"...."Mary"....."5 penny" etc
I like it in your head. That sounds VERY wrong on so many levels.....but you know what I mean.
Thanks for the reassurance Jamie - I'm glad you didn't think I was throwing "shade" in your direction - as that was not (and never will be) my intention. I have, on occasion bought from Amazon in the past...but I like to avoid it at ALL costs normally.
I still think amazon only sell books. I know they don't but in my head they do. It confuses me so I just avoid.
......which is fine...but, if like me, you fear that Amazon might be (metaphorically) one of the four horsemen...then you can go to an actual shop....I bought a pack of "Suttons" borage seeds for £1.49 = 70 seeds in the pack, allegedly.
Ah yes could be.....i planted about 40 sunflower seeds about 3 weeks ago that were all out of date it turned out so i bought another packet
Yes they do seed around quite a bit. It always amazes me how different things come up in different years.
I think my seeds might be out of date!

Perhaps they just need a little more time? I thought my Aquilegia and Delphinium seeds were duds but they started sprouting yesterday
I wish you luck!
You think you've got problems......I'm just about hoping to get around to buying my seed tomorrow.
Oh jamie you're going to have a strong army! I have just checked mine but nothing has come through yet.
I chucked some on the garden years ago. Saw nothing for a couple of years then randomly up they popped.
Some years I see none, other years I have loads. I think they they self seed, then lie dormant a bit, then pop up.
I knew they could be eaten but never tried them. If I see them this year, I think I'll do the ice cube thing. Might be nice in orange juice or Pimms.
They are supposed to be good companions for tomatoes
If anyone would like to join in, i got my seeds from amazon for £2.58 and they're doing really well:
