Ice cream in winter?

My husband keeps pestering me to eat the ice cream I bought at the end of summer. I love ice cream in summer when it is too hot as it helps me cool down. But I do not want it in winter as it makes me feel cold. I don't think it is weird at all to prefer warm things in winter and not want cold things, and vice versa in summer, but he keeps saying I am the weird one for not wanting ice cream in winter. I have tried to do a poll, no idea if it has worked!

What about you, am I alone in this?

  • We eat ice cream all year round. Love it :)

My favourite is strawberry. Which is yours?

  • Ice cream is a all year food for me. I used to be have it in cooler weather because I lived in Poland and it was colder there than here. I love ice cream, so many flavours to choose and suitable for any time of year.

  • Very true. I remember my dad had an ice cream maker and went through a phase of making homemade ice cream.

  • I saw online some people do ice cream making from home.

  • If you got the ingredients could you make ice cream yourself from home

  • You won't thank me for saying this, but Bailey's, or even Bailey's flavour makes me want to Nauseated face. My mother is the same, which is unfortunate because when she was working she would end up being given bottles of Bailey's as gifts from her colleagues.

  • When I was at uni I was hit by a 1m diameter fireball once, well half of my head was hit, so I lost all hair on one side, including eyebrows, and mustache and beard, I had to shave off remaining.

Fireball was a creation of my gaming buddy, we went to pub to drink, and he was bored, and drunk and started inhailing lighter gas,, then blew it out and lighted it up, creation exceeded everyones wildest imagination, and it wasn't stationary, It was moving in my direction and fast, while I was stupefied.

  • Especiallly winter time, outside my previous supermarket, so cashiers on tills would notice me eating outside and shiver from cold, My payback for making fun of me summer time, because I'm sweating profusly, they were calling it 'like a pig'', or ''Is it raining already?''. or classic one ''What's wrong with you?''.

  • Smiley

My trouble is that I either concentrate too much or not enough. I didn't realise at first that my nose hurt.

  • Yes you plus lighter plus those gloves. I’m picturing two flaming hands becoming a human fireball apologising for the inconvenience to onlookers

  • I just *know* I'd set fire to myself accidentally. I even burnt my nose with a lighter once. It was red-brown on the tip for some days.

  • I hope those are safer than they sound!

  • I bought one of those Zippo hand warmers that you fill up with lighter fuel - but haven’t had much success with it. It’s meant to keep warm for 12 hours but it keeps going cold after about 1 hour. Not sure what we’re doing wrong. It’s nice when it does work though.

  • The fish and chips are too die for. Cotton candy as well. Everything tastes amazing at the seaside.

Funny how some things trigger such strong memories or images.

Yeah like how a certain song can bring back strong memories.

  • I crushed it so it was very small - so not too bad. I loved it so much. Cheap too - I never bought any drink’s out because I always had a flask of that with me.

  • I don’t feel the cold much - and I love being out in the cold. I love icy, crisp cold winter weather, I do have a bit of a passion for good winter clothing though - so I’m always well wrapped up when I go out! I grew up on a farm and we always spent loads of time outdoors in all weathers. The cold weather makes me feel very alive, very exhilarated.

it’s being too hot that I struggle with more.

  • The ice does sound nice in summer. Not bad for the teeth if you just suck on it! But maybe hard to resist crunching it.

  • In winter I eat ice cream while sitting in front of the fan heater!
A bit better than when I had about 5 years of being obsessed with eating finally crushed ice. We’d go out for long walks (summer and winter) and I’d have to take a thermos flask full of crushed ice to have while on my walk. My husband thought it not THAT strange in the summer - but down right bizarre in the winter! I just loved the texture and refreshing ‘hit’ of crushed ice - whatever the temperature.

i only got out of the habit because I was seriously ill and had to spend a long time in hospital. I decided to not go back to it when I recovered and was ‘freed’ from hospital - as it’s not good for my teeth to be having all that ice - even though I crushed it quite small before having it.

  • I find it harder to warm up as i get older. Of course sometimes I am too hot as well! Maybe menopause will turn me into a winter ice cream eater?

The other day I went for a cycle ride and took hours before I felt properly warm. I don't think it was any colder than 2 days prior when I had warmed up just fine. Even a coffee didn't warm me up thoroughly and that usually works. That's the thing, for me it seems my strongest way to change temp is to eat or drink something hot or cold, plus holding the warm mug in my hands or cold damp cloths on the skin. Maybe I should have borrowed my husband's hot water bottle?

  • Seaside foods! Ice cream is a good one, though for me the seaside association is not as strong as hot fresh doughnuts or fish and chips.
