Disappearing Messages/Posts, 2018. (EDIT.)

Note by WebPM: I have split this off from the photography thread partly to make this discussion more accessible to others who have questions, and partly to keep the other thread on topic.)

...Finally, this is to WebPM. I may Post again, though. But after 3, 4 attempts to find WebPMs Post, I could not, and then I recall a thing said by MrRobert123, in that Replies Change depending upon how a Thread is entered, and so I clicked upon the Thread TITLE, instead of any reply (from the HOME Screen... and now I finally see your Reply, Mr.WebPM.

(I wanted to keep this Thread about Pictures, but then that happens, and so I Post it here, as it happened, rather than my previous Thread. Excuse Me.)

EDIT - From DC: This Post now does not entirely make sense, when used  as a Starting Post or as an Introduction. To anyone reading, Please ignore the sentence here which says that this Thread is "about pictures", for THIS Thread is not about pictures at all..!! Most of all, Please see the first *Real* Post from myself, below. I myself can only wait to see what other people (including NAS) do regarding this Thread...

  • We're working on this one, which seems a rather unusual issue. I'll post again when we have had time to investigate more.

  • Even stranger is that I now have the same problem with the thread that you and Robert have described above, but earlier when I replied all messages showed up.

  • Yes, same here. That was when Song's reply was the only one voted up.  Now I've voted up

no still just seeing the first two 'Top replies' and no responses underneath.

  • Good example .

But when I press on song's reply, all messages appear.

  • OK, here's an odd one: http://community.autism.org.uk/f/adults-on-the-autistic-spectrum/12572/trying-to-get-support/ lists '7 replies', and at the moment none of them are showing up for me.

  • Bottom Post for this Thread for now.

WEBPM, as always, requests that persons Post pictures of Missing Messages/Posts... whenever it happens. Please do that, anyone reading... if you can!

    Or Report it.

WebPM may read this Post and if so, I add that not everyone knows how to "Screenshot" or/and Post the picture. Also... while anyone is reading - Please let me know (here) if I should start a New Thread (before Hot Weather) because this is getting long and complex.

To Post, either Reply to this Post or to the very START. Thank You all Kindly.

  • I feel flattered at being quoted.

...And rightly so, Sir. I recall that you first suggested that, somewhere upon the "Comments, Improvements, Feedback" Thread which NAS began. I would have to search for a long time to re-find it and Post direct Link to it. But it is what I recall.

The rest of what you say I found out for myself. But you mentioned entering Threads in different ways. Then other people quote that and the original quoter is often not known. That is why I mention you and Thank You again. I cannot really say more than that.

...Good Fortune, as always to you!   :-)

  • "By George, I think he's got it...!"

It was as a result of that that I made some small changes to the way that threads are displayed. This won't fix the issue that you are having, but it may mask it a little.

Thank You for this, Webster-The-Man. Indeed, it will not fix the issue as you say... and also as said... you are still sort of looking into it...

I suppose that means that this Thread takes another rest for maybe another Month or two... until your good self Posts an "Update", or I check back and ask again "How is it going?", as I did...

It will be hot weather by then. And I may start a new Thread as I say, as a sequel to this one, then. I do not know. We are waiting, now... um - well I am waiting anyway...!

    Take Care of yourself, WebPM.

  • I feel flattered at being quoted.

A temporary solution to the disappearing message problem is to start a new thread.  Because messages disappear after threads become too long with several layers of nesting.

  • Yes, sorry, I did accept that messages can be missing from a display. However, I wrote that at the same time s I was trying to work out what was happening. Therefore, the key point - agreeing that you are right - is not as obvious in my message as it should have been.

It was as a result of that that I made some small changes to the way that threads are displayed. This won't fix the issue that you are having, but it may mask it a little.

  • ...This is direct link to the quoted response, above:

    http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12022/disappearing-messages-posts-2018-edit/72393#72393

...I may add something, still (And not be sorry about it?): I have never once seen 'messages displayed in the wrong order', as suggested, there. Messages may have sections missing, yet what is shown is always in the right order! I really do not understand what this is suggesting, there.

Messages are missing randomly - but they do NOT get mixed up!

  • Thank You for this response, of course. This Thread is becoming long and complex (Bah.)... and I seriously consider starting a new one over it, but as you say, again, we must "wait"...

The changes made I think are STILL not what Myself or others are talking about!! We press all of the LoadNext/Previous options, but the reply is still missing! Here is as you say:

    WebPM said:

"I'm chasing this up. However, I still believe that this is about threads being displayed with messages in different orders, as I set out in my previous (lengthy) response. I've seen your suggestion that I can see messages because I'm using an administrator account, but I don't believe that that is the difference."

(... Sorry I cannot quote directly, it is too difficult, now.)

But what I try to say - what WE try to say - is that, no matter what... a Message --- IS JUST NOT THERE.

.As I posted Pictures... following Mr.Robert123's suggestion, upon entering via the Title... then the once-missing message IS there.

But it is NOT there after a Link, even after Loading everything. Most of the Pictures I Posted to show missing Replies, were after clicking ALL Load-Buttons to show that the Reply was missing.

I say what I say, because it is so difficult to do. And of course I can only Screenshot a small section of a Thread - I cannot ScreenShot anymore than can fit! But over and over I say that Messages are "missing" even if all LoadNextPrevious things are pressed!

I really cannot emphasize it more than that. Messages are missing even after all LoadNextPrevious Buttons are pressed.

  • Just to say that, after some discussions with the software producers, I have changed some settings a little. This will not change the way that the forum works, but it may make some issues here less obvious. First, we are now showing more messages by default (before things such as Load Next kick in). This will increase the likelihood of full threads loading, and tend to mean that sub-threads are not hidden so much (the hiding of "sibling" messages discussed elsewhere in this thread). The trade-off is that page loads may be a bit slower.

I have also increased the level of indentation allowed, again with the intention that it will be easier to see the correct place of a message in a thread.

The next version of the software is also aiming to make some small improvements in this area, but I don't have a date for when that will be available to us.

  • Thank you for the correction. That makes perfect sense. I should have checked the documentation more thoroughly.

  • This is my last Post for "Tonight".

Right at the current end of this Thread... Mr LoneWarrior and myself did a thing - again - to prove a thing -again- and the result was that we could NOT delete Posts after they had been replied to, and that Quotes within them do not change either. (Apart from if a UserName changes.)

Only the person who Posted can change/edit their Post... excepting NAS, of course. (Hence UserName changing.)

To WebPM... this does not change the purpose of this Thread, however. My last reply to your good self still stands, up there. Thanks for reading.

  • Hey thanks for that,,,very useful.

  • Thank You. This is madness now...

The TIMES can be followed by a new function added to this forum, where the cursor is positioned over the time/date and it now shows the exact time. Maybe I should sign off, now...

This is going to read as a mess upon the 'morrow (!). I shall/may add times then, as an EDIT. But it might not help WebPM... (!)

  • It did happen yes. I have just replied with such a comment to it, and how could anyone possibly hate you....NOT possible. X()x.

  • Nite nite DC,fare thee well.x()x.

  • I think I just deleted a reply to which you may have been typing a reply at. This is an old problem, however, and not much to do with what we were investigating. Replies disappearing happens a lot when someone posts to a Thread at the same time as something else happening to it.

That alone could begin a new Thread, which would be: Replies disappearing as they are being typed in.

...Sorry, please do not hate me - it is not my fault...!  :-/
