Hello everyone,
we are thinking of having a shortish budget holiday in the U.K. and would be interested to hear any recommendations you might have.
What are your favourite places for a holiday or weekend break in the U.K.? preferably nowhere too busy or hectic - we like fairly quiet places - not big crowds. Definitely not a big city.
Any ideas?
Thanks
The highlands of Scotland and the west coast islands.
Majestic scenery - great walks if you are fit and awesome for photos. Loads of historic architecture in the towns, friendly people and the ever changing Scottish weather.
Ideally done with a mix of car and on foot (especially by ferry to the islands) there is a huge range of things to see and do and a sense of such a different world starting just ourside of Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Do it by June at the very latest to avoid the midge season though - this can really spoil the trip (read up on it).
Yes - we went to Scotland in July years ago and the midges were a total nightmare! We were camping too - it was not great! Tbh we haven’t been back since because of that. The landscape is stunning though - so beautiful!
