Hi from Sheffield Hallam!

Hello

*For students from Sheffield Hallam University who identify as being on the autism spectrum*

This is Lucy from Inclusive Support. We normally run the Social in person, but we obviously can't do that right now. We are using this platform to support you to connect with each other through these difficult times.

Please use this thread to write:

  • what you are studying
  • what your interests and hobbies are
  • anything else you would like to share with fellow autistic students at Sheffield Hallam University ...

... and hopefully you can then begin to communicate with and support each other here :)

One student has suggested having digital pen pals so you could use this thread to organise this among yourselves.

Please make sure you follow the community rules

Thank you and take care

Lucy

  • Hi all

Here is our new web page containing information for autistic students:

    Web information for autistic students

There is some useful information on the web page, including videos and writing by Hallam students on being an autistic student.

There is one piece of information that is incorrect - the information about The Social. This will be corrected soon.

    Here is the correct information:

We are currently running a remote Social, which means that we are socialising online using video chat.  We usually alternate these Socials between Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They are normally from 4.00pm to 5.00pm.

     What happens at the Social?

     We talk about

    • what we have been doing
    • how we are managing a certain aspect of our lives (such as maintaining routine)
    • what we think about certain topics
    • a particular hobby or interest
    • recommendations for books, films, TV

We have also started to do quizzes and will be doing other activities such as games in the future.

All students who have declared to the university that they are autistic receive a weekly email invite to the Social. The invite always says what will be happening in the Social that week.

    Who can attend the Social?

Students who identify as being on the autism spectrum can attend. You don't need to have had autism diagnosed by a professional.  Applicants who identify as being on the autism spectrum can attend after the date of the question and answer session in July.

    How to Join

Just attend when you want to. There is no need to sign up or register.

  • Hi all

Just in case anybody from Sheffield Hallam University looks here, we have moved our online socialising to a different platform: Discord

If you would like more information about the Discord group please email inclusivesupport@shu.ac.uk and title the email 'More Information About Discord Group'.

Also, our web information aimed at autistic students has moved. It is now here: Web information for autistic students

    Thanks

    Lucy
