Self regulation - vagas nerve, EFT and anything else

What have folk done to aid self regulation/stay in control? I'm looking at some breathing stuff and might try EFT tapping again - hard to say how helpful either have been previously as I used then when severely burned/anxious/depressed/whatever, but I'm willing to try tu build a routine around both.

Does anyone have anything to share that works really well for them?

  • One question I do have about this kind of thing is whether it can be used when deregulated(/in my case anxious) or whether it's better to build in a daily routine to help keep the wolf from the door?

(And what I mean exactly is it likely to be less useful when deregulated if it's not something you practice daily?)

  • Here's a link for EFT tapping (I haven't vetted it, but it gives you the premise): https://worldstemcellsclinic.com/blog/eft-tapping-for-autism/

When I was taught it it went after a meditative body scan and was supposed to be done with changing, though I wasn't up for the latter at all (the phrase was around something stressing you and completely accepting yourself or something, which felt off to me). Apparently the important part is the tapping, and it follows a similar approach to acupuncture.

Was it useful? I couldn't honestly say from that time, but it certainly wasn't harmful.

  • Thanks for those - I hadn't seen either of those approaches; the tending one looks interesting and seems similar to the body scan thing that you do before eft - I'll try to remember to post an image of tap points later.

For now, I've been trying a few of the (silent) ones above - the breathing seems to have some impact so I'm going to start there, and maybe add a couple of others (eyes/ears).

  • Dear Acquiesce,

I hope the community can add some of their strategies.

I thought I would leave some resources that I have used that could help anyone who wants to explore self-regulation:

It sounds like a very positive plan to build a routine around self-regulation. I hope this helps prevent periods of burnout and mental distress for you.

Thank you for sharing and I hope you get some helpful responses!

    Take care,
