List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I was wondering if most people who contribute here are fine with no current problems, so I thought a list might be useful.

I'm rather despairing at the moment of its brokenness and absence of communication from NAS about a timescale (or anything) for sorting these.

It's making me wonder whether to bother any longer.

1. I know that   has a message coming up in orange at the top saying his account may/will be deleted.

2. I keep being logged out (orange banner at the top with a seconds countdown).

Is anyone else getting anything still (or even unable to use their original account?).

Has anything been sorted?

Thanks.

  • Thank you for the information. I appreciate all the work that you volunteers do.

  • Dear Online Community Members,

Thank you for being a valued part of our Online Community. We would like to address some of the concerns raised in this thread. Below, we’ve outlined the key issues and how we’re addressing them to ensure the best possible experience for all users.

    Account Deletion
We understand there has been confusion regarding account deletion. To clarify:
    • Accounts cannot be deleted automatically.
    • An account will only be deleted if a member emails CommunityManager@nas.org.uk to request this.
We apologise for the incorrect notifications some members have received about their accounts being scheduled for deletion. Please rest assured that no account will be deleted unless you make a formal request via email.

    Spam Filter
We recognise that some posts may not appear immediately on the forum due to being flagged by our external spam filter. While we understand this can be frustrating, the spam filter is essential in keeping the community free from excessive spam content.
    To clarify:
    • The spam filter is managed externally, and we do not have control over what it flags.
    • Accounts flagged by the spam filter have not been placed in moderation. Moderation only occurs if our rules are breached, and in such cases, we always notify the user with an explanation of our actions.
If your post has been blocked by the spam filter and you’d like it approved promptly, please contact us at CommunityManager@nas.org.uk, and we’ll review it as soon as possible.

    Communication and Updates
Since we began developing the new Online Community platform, clear and transparent communication has been a priority. While we’ve aimed to manage expectations within our funding constraints, we are committed to keeping you informed. When we asked members in January 2024 to tell us what you'd like to see on our new platform, we clarified that "as we will need to stay within our budget, we may not be able to offer all functions that are suggested."
Our moderation team is dedicated to responding to your feedback, questions, and technical concerns via CommunityManager@nas.org.uk. While we aim to address every issue, we receive hundreds of emails weekly and must prioritise urgent matters first. All feedback and enquiries are reviewed daily to support users through this transition.
We acknowledge there are further developments we’d like to make but did not have the resources to implement during this first phase of the platform upgrade. We will continue to communicate any proposed changes well in advance and will answer your questions to the best of our ability.

    Contacting Us
To ensure your enquiries are addressed:
    • Please email us at CommunityManager@nas.org.uk.
    • Note that comments made on the forum will not always receive a direct response.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue improving the Online Community. Your feedback is invaluable, and we remain committed to providing you with a safe and supportive environment.

    Kind regards,
    The Moderation Team
  • And while they are sorting out the other problems, is it possible to remove the option to "report abuse" for your own posts? There have been a few times when I've tried to edit a post and tapped on "report abuse" in error because it's directly above "Edit". This means the moderators have to check.it, which is a waste of their time.

  • Fact that they went through a whole update, but there still isn't an option to set notifications to only notify you of responses to comments you make, as far as I can tell. If I comment on a discussion, I either can be notified of every single comment added to the discussion, or none of them.

  • It doesn't happen all the time for me, but like TheCatWoman says, the time it can take for pages to load on this site can be reminiscent of the days of dial-up. On the plus side, at least the slow-loading doesn't include dial-up sound effects.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one getting this. What was the point of upgrading the site if it still crawls along at dial up speed? It is this site and not anything at my end as everything else comes up fine.

  • Page showing list of topics/posts (e.g. https://community.autism.org.uk/f/adults-on-the-autistic-spectrum ) , I hover cursor over a post and just as I click, everything shifts down the page and I end up clicking into the wrong thing. Takes me a couple of attempts to successfully click into the post I wish to view

Yes, it's happening with me too - it's slow loading so you end up pressing on the wrong thing.

  • (Using MacBook / Safari... though I doubt it's unique to this)...

  • I find it baffling that the forum was changed so much in the first place. One of the things us autistic people struggle with the most is change and yet the NAS have decided to redesign the entire forum, layout etc for no apparent reason. It does make me wonder how much understanding of autism the NAS actually have

  • In other related news, I am seeing notifications on threads and there there's no new posts. I think this is when someone is on moderation.

Yup, I experienced similar after signing in.

  • UPDATE: I have finally heard back from the community manager and have been assured that my account won't get deleted.

I have just done a little dance in Trafalgar Square .

    The pigeons are scared.

If one of those is you,  then please don't lost heart. (I think I saw your name pop up on the notification)

  • 2 minor problems with pms:

Clicking on the icon for pms doesn't take you to pms immediately. Something appears saying view all, and you have to click that to see them instead.

And a new problem; when you put your mouse over someone's name on a pm, you get a random message saying some random person has posted such and such a message in the forum, that's got nothing to do with the person who's pm you're looking at!

  • Thanka but this doesn't address the major problems.

    In particular  SpikeyMark's post below

  • I think that's an incorrect link there @EuniceMod. (You posted an internal link, maybe?)

If I may say personally - thank you for all you and the other volunteers do.

The problem that Debbie is talking about hasn't been addressed anywhere, as far as I know, which now makes me think that no one is aware of it and the issue is being confused with the spam and password issues which are different.

My problem specifically is that I have a constant banner, which when I click on it it tells me that my account is marked for deletion on 23rd. It has a link to contest this, but the link doesn't do anything much.

My specific worry is that this deletion is an automated task and my account will just be merged with all the other 'deleted user' at that time and I'll lose all my friends and private messages forever. And that NOTHING can be done about this.

I get no reply from the manager - which makes me think that they skim read and think "spam/password - read the posts!!!"

The friends that are currently here will be aware, but there are others that maybe on long breaks that I'd really be upset to lose.

  • Dear Debbie,

We are very sorry that you are experiencing technical issues on our new online community platform. We understand why you are concerned.
We would like like to reassure you our technical support team is working hard behind the scenes to try to fix this as quickly as possible. We have published a thread with more information here:  Password problems and posts incorrectly marked as spam
Please do contact CommunityManager@nas.org.uk if you have any questions.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We would like to thank you for your understanding and continued patience during this time.

    Kind Regards,
    Eunice Mod
  • I dearly hope that  's account isn't deleted for 'abuse' as is being threatened.

    exploding head

  • Some posts are being flagged as spam, some appear but others are gone.

Over the weekend I was here a lot but I think only one or two of my messages have successfully appeared, the rest marked as a spam. Unsure if the others are ever going to see the light of day.
