Health Advice For My Throat

Hello.

I joined here a while ago but haven't been online much because of my anxiety. My health anxiety is now bad because I've had a sore throat for about a year and now I've noticed a lump thing at the back of my mouth and I'm really worried it's cancer. I know a regular person would go to the doctors but I get so scared and anxious that I can't leave my house so I'm hoping someone here has experienced the same as me and can tell me what it might be.

Does it look like cancer? I think cancer mostly because of Google but also because it runs in our family. All my grandparents died of it and my cousin has it as well and she's only 36.

I've no other symptoms other than fatigue, nausea and unsteadiness when I walk where it feels like I'll fall over.

I've had this for so long the sore throat and I was originally given antibiotics by my doctor and that appointment last year nearly killed me! The anxiety was so bad I fainted, was sick, fainted again.. It was horrible!

Since then I've tried over the counter stuff but nothing works. And now that lumpy bit is there.

If you've got experience of this please say what you think it is as I am worried sick about this.

  • Your anxiety will not improve unless you get it checked out.
Don't put it off. Make an appointment with your G.P who will refer you to the ENT with a specialist at the Hospital.
    Make sure you do.

  • Thank you. I tried calling just now but was number 8 in the queue so I will try again a bit later on.

I'm hoping the doctor won't want to see me. My anxiety can't cope with going out I rarely go anywhere now and when I do walk I feel really tired and legs weak and headache. My mum says it's inactivity. I'm not lazy I just don't like leaving my room. Fresh air and activity is bad for me.

  • I just changed my profile pic so sorry to confuse you.
Try and get a G.p Appointment TODAY as it's Friday.
The way things are with the NHS at the moment you may have to wait 2 weeks to see the G.P.
If you get reffered it will take another 2-3 months before you are seen.
    Get the ball rolling.
You will feel much better once you have.
    Best wishes.

  • I've got to call back Monday as they had no appointments or phonecalls left because it was a busy day. I'll call first thing Monday.

  • A private dentist might be a faster option.

Agreed - tell them about your anxiety and limitations of mobility and they may be able to direct you to a dentist who deals with patients like yourself where there are ultra gentle and considerate.

It won't be cheap mind you.

Can you arrange for someone to take you to the doctor? I strongly recommend following the advice here and get booked in.

Do you have any medication for the anxiety? If so then use if for the day of the appointment. If not - ask your doctor about it as it may be a good option to stop you getting into this sort of situation again.

Oh, and when you call the doctor - wait until you get answered.  It may take an hour but if you are getting to the stage of asking strangers on the internet for advice on your throat then you know it is serious and you know you are going to have to get it sorted.

Call on any support structure you have to get this done - the longer you leave it the worse it will get so stop stalling.
