I understand that many of us do not have jobs, and I know that those who do (myself included here) struggle a lot with them. This got me wondering about what dream job(s) we can think of, or even hope to do one day. It may be inspiring and help some of us find something that allows forum users to get a job or get a better-suited job.
I will put down some thoughts to get the ball rolling. My main priority is to be away from an office or busy environment.
1) work from home permanently doing some kind of PAYE employment for salary certainty. this would ideally just be for 2-3 days a week. if money was not a constraint then I would not do this work at all, and I would do something more fun like a gardening job in the summer, maybe become a landscape garden designer, write novels and short stories professionally.
2) design board games 1-2 days a week.
3) volunteer at a charity in a non customer-facing role 1 day a week.
4) maybe a part-time bike mechanic and/or frame builder 1 day a week. i can't afford the training costs and time needed to get the qualifications to do these things now but maybe in the future.
A 'portfolio' career is my ideal because I can get bored doing the same thing and this also allows me to think in terms of escapes - when things get too much doing job X I can flee to safety with job Y. I think this mental trick would be very beneficial for me.
How about you?
yorkshire born and bred.
Scratch that. I'm getting confused with Swindon
Rocket man?

That would be a great thing to do but I think the job you already do sounds very interesting and important.
also, are you from Slough?
super cool. i mean really. i think you have just about made it to be elevated to my third 'hero' on here. such a wicked, meaningful, and important job. wish i had talent like that.
My job is close to my dream job anyway. I conduct scientific research using complex maths and computer simulations attempting to understand and manipulate the ageing process.
If I wasn't doing research what would I like to do? Game development maybe. Political campaigning although that's hard to turn into a career unless you can get elected. I love anime so it would be great to have a go at making one but I doubt I'd have the patience for that process. I used to want to do urban missionary type work, shoulder to shoulder with the most needy of the inner city, helping drug addicts, the homeless etc, I always promised myself if I ever made any real money in life, you know the kind big time film stars and CEOs make, that I'd start doing something about the state of my home town and its deprivation.
Literally masking hahaha
And backs suck a lot more than people think.
Worth doing, but can be an ordeal. Most people I've done backpieces on have said they wouldn't have bothered if they knew how hard it was going to be.
Not to put you off or anything, hahaha.
I've not got mine done, because I don't like being touched by people, and I can't reach to do it myself, although I have thought about trying to do it myself, hahaha.
ha now that would be confusing!
in all seriousness though, I am sometimes tempted by getting a large/full (?) back tattoo of a cherry tree in blossom. pink blossom. the issue i have is it is on my back so i can't see it...
hahaha.
Better yet, a 1:1 scale of someone else's face
i was saying to PR the other day that i may consider a 1:1 scale tattoo of my face... on my face.

Me too! This is jobs and hobbies.....
Haha, the bigger the better mate
now addicted to ink
I understand that. Tattoos are so much more than art. I wish I wasn't so allergic to things as I'm too scared to get one because of that....
is that all animals? just mammals, creatures with hair, what about fish, reptiles etc. if reptiles are OK I suppose you could combine 2 and 3 by being a counsellor specialising in helping politicians.
Indeed! :-)
It's the animals with fur/hair. Fish and reptiles are fine. I have thought about owning a snake but I think it's kinda cruel and that they should be able to be free and not in an enclosure for my entertainment..... I feel similar about zoos and the like...
Yes, it can definitely be difficult to stay focused, and solvent, with so many interests, haha.
And, there's something really nice about a well built steelie
I enjoy driving and I’ve been to a few places up and down the uk so I decided to get my class 2 but when I started working for a small company in West Brom I found it hard and my anxiety increased
