I know people are going to say go to groups where like minded people are but i never seem to find people or find a fault that just ruins it for me.
Alternatively, you can go join groups that are so focused on the activity that you don't really need to get on well with the other people.
E.g I do rowing and tbh although there are usually 9 people in the boat there's only one person who talks (to say instructions) so it doesn't even matter if you don't like the others. (But you can choose to be sociable before and afterwards if you feel like it.) Personally I quite like being *around* people without the pressure of actively socialising.
Of course for some people the delight of finding some one you can talk to about something you both enjoy is a big part of the appeal.
absolutely, there is always something to talk about if you're with people who are obsessed with the same thing as you :)
yes i have joined a meditative walking group and a practical bunch of business people environmental group cleaning our local river delta/bay of rubbish. We have removed so much stuff we need a quarry lorry to take it away.
