Something I don't get about neurotypicals...

Something that really baffles and annoys me about neurotypicals is that they are so tribal, and they tend to make decisions collectively. Eg they collectively reject people, they collectively have the same hobbies, wear the same clothes etc and they operate in groups. This is something that has always baffled me because I make my own decisions and form my own opinions. I don't understand why neurotypicals are so obsessed with fitting in to a group.

  • It depends. I used to be a goth, and from my experience, 'alternative' people these days are not much different from the normies, they just dress differently, but they still do the same thing (forming cliques, tribalism, collectively shunning anyone they see as a threat etc)

  • IT can be a nightmare in places

  • My big worry is they make the laws of this country so making some autistics criminal for doing innocent actions

  • but not NAS approved   Slight smile

  • I'd like to think I'm not personally incompetent but the services I work with are often wasteful and sometimes incompetent on the whole.

I'm well qualified and experienced though so I think I'm worth every penny Wink

  • If you say so.   I didn't say anything about working hard - I spend an awful lot of time in hospitals......Have you ever tried running a project in the NHS?

  • All the NTs hang out in the non-productive jobs

    thats a ridiculous  statement

the staff in the NHS are working very hard

  • Sounds like you have put yourself in a good situation then. I plan to take a leaf out of your book Pray
Good luck with the new role

  • Yes, I'm aware of that but I find I only really get absorbed in a new interest if there is a social motivation I.e. someone I like to be around is interested in something.

I dont know anyone techy that I spend much time speaking to, so I'd be lonely as you have pointed out. I fulfil my needs with my hobbies instead. Currently knitting and crochet for the past 6 years.

  • It's never too late to change direction, you can learn to code for free these days online.

But remember to factor in the day to day of it all. I spend all day everyday, apart from weekends, alone, in a darkened room, moving pixels around. Might sound good for a day or so, but after 10 years I start my week feel lonely, and I end it feeling glad it's over.

I'd love to be outdoors more, being part of something bigger, or maybe even around animals.

A laptop screen can feel like a cage if your mind is kept within it long enough

  • I refer to myself as incompatible with my current job. I try to do it well but it is pretty much impossible.

I'm actually leaving in a few weeks to join the NHS Flushed

I wish I'd known I was autistic in my younger days and I've picked something more stereotypical to focus on like computer programming. A teacher once said I should be a computer programmer but I ignored her because she didn't teach IT, she was an English teacher. Now I think she may have seen something in me that I didn't see myself at the time.

  • I've spent a lot of time looking at this - I've noticed all the aspies end up in productive jobs - making things, solving problems, creating the future.   Niche or cottage industries, individual specialists and experts.

All the NTs hang out in the non-productive jobs - insurance sales, council offices, NHS, teaching etc.   Jobs where it's all about BS and socialising and never needing to worry about delivering anything or a proper service - it's all slap-dash or incompetence throughout - and never make waves. and you'll go far - conform or die - and someone else will have to pick up the tab - it's not their problem where the money comes from

Social services is like a cross between NHS and the council offices - God help you.!!! Smiley

  • It frustrates me because a lot of organisations say they value diversity and then try to stamp out any sign of diversity from the majority. Don't be honest, don't be different, don't be smart, just blend in.

Even in my profession, social work, where we are meant to be accepting of diversity and be open to challenging the status quo, you still feel the oppression from the majority who want you to just keep quiet and toe the line.

    Tiring.

  • You're looking in the wrong places - you're taking NTs face-on - it's not worth it - look around the edges of society - that's where all the interesting people are - the ones who do things differently.

  • I like to think of it from the point of view of a hive. In a hive you have worker bees, drones, etc etc. The majority need to cooperate and assist each other as a group. Then you have guards, soldiers, on guard for any threat to the collective. There will be bees searching for food on their own, and bees searching for new ways to develop the hive and build.
Society is the same. The collective may not value us proportionately, but all ND minds are vital to the progression of our hive society and the proliferation of our species, for if we don't evolve in new directions then we may not exist in years to come. You are vital, even though it's tough, believe in that. Nature is our proof

  • My thoughts, exactly.

  • Certainly, though that further exemplifies the importance of the group, no group our a misguided group struggles, a group that truly helps each other grow and looks out for each other is optimal.

we all functioned better when we had small communities where we had to help each other because if the doctor didn't genuinely do the most to help the cattle carer/herder (whats the word lol?)  when he was ill then the town would have no beef or dairy.

tell a few thousand people that they get to be big government officials who control 8 billion or so people, and then tell individual citizens if they scam each other they can become richer ....and well the whole thing falls apart and each generation of kids ends up worse off than the last

  • Schools have become counterproductive, as far as I'm concerned.

  • The problem we have now is we don't have community and we are sending our kids out everyday from 2 yrs old

That's because The State knows best.    Learn from your Big Brother.  Smiley
