is that really so bad ?
I'm going to stop reading the paper on my tablet. It's become lazy screen habit with covid and brexit, but it's a distraction.
Having had considerable success in losing excess weight, but still being an avid eater of basic foodstuffs, I'd advocate you checking out the various stores for inexpensive good-quality sugar-free muesli with enough fruit and nut to motivate you to eat a decent (and filling) bowlful for breakfast. I never tire of that.. The taste can truly make your entire day. (And you can also now tell yourself you got thru' another day of not losing your sense of taste & smell.) We keep hearing that we are people who are sometimes prone to eating the same things, day in, day out. But actually there is no reason at all why That behaviour can't be constructive. What's my motivation for doing things this way.? While I was in secondary school, I once had to share a hotel room with a person who had to daily self-inject for diabetes. Now his diabetes was probably genetic in origin. but it still left me with a lifelong desire to avoid diabetes through diet. That said, I still eat like a horse. Lots of basic staples with plenty of fresh fruit & veg; and not so much meat & tofu.
Get a retirement career somewhat different from my previous career. part-time, a bit more creative or useful, and perhaps virtually taking me away from the numerous DIY tasks i already do at home.
I'm thinking this morning (yet again) that I would like to do salvage; because someone (yet again) asked me to help with a room cleanout this morning. After I had figured out using some of the items as workshop storage, realised what could easily be repaired and sent some other items to folks who would immediately put them to use, there was almost nothing left as real trash; but I expect the local recyclers will even put that remainder to some use. I'm hoping there is now a bit of impetus in both my country of residence and the UK for some real effort to reduce single-use stuff. There have recently been campaigns started in both places; it appears a bit like some good may eventually come out of the inconvenient truth of COVID.
Now that is also what I would call 'dynamic meditation'. it even puts quite a few elements of my previous careers together.
My new year resolution is not to make one. So I've already broken it!
Happy New Year everybody
My resolutions are,
To better control panic attacks.
To drink and eat a little better.
To go out a bit more.
Those are good ones! Good luck, doing less can be harder than doing more.
Thanks aidie for starting this. I'm determined to have a glorious year with lots of outdoor adventure, and to come out of lockdown in April better than I went in in Nov.
I don't normally do these, but have been feeling like it could be good this year. Here's some initial thoughts:
- exhaust myself less: take more time to myself; don't do things out of obligation; have a 'not to do list'; not aim to be so perfect; not be continually striving for self improvement.
- get a boyfriend: engage with online dating once covid allows for dates; do trips with ODL.
- maximise my fell running: get Mr NSI fell running; fell run regular with Sam; do the 3 peaks; head to the Lakes n Dales for 2-3 days at a time to fell run; do as many QMDs as fell runs; consider learning to drive and getting a car (eek, scary)!?!
- progress my Mountain Leadership qualification as much as possible (10 QMDs post course).
- read 50 books or equivalent, mostly work related (this is prob over ambitious).
- aim for more serenity: Sat morning processing 'lie ins'; shop thurs eve; don't neurotically socialise; do Sat eve dinners; adjust friends to those that reciprocate; don't have to many life rules and aspirations (bit ironic given this list).
- establish a morning routine now there's neither gym nor MGG: run with Sam Tues n Thurs; yoga mon morn; meditate weds n fri morn.
I'll come back to this I think as my thoughts evolve.
I guess my aims would be: to slow down and take on less, notice that I'm already doing really well and that I can feel ok about not exercising :-D
Hi .. good aims .. cutting out sugar is difficult withthe majority of food sold in the western world .. I find meditation tought to stick with: my mind just wanders off on its own :-) .. part time work sounds good if you do it
1. my new years resolution is to reduce my sugar intake. There is sugar bunged in everything even "healthy" breakfast biscuits.
2. I also want to improve mu meditation practice so I have even less angst, struggle less,,,,,,,
3. shift to part-time working once Covid-19 is contained ( May/June ? )
