ASD vs neurodivergency in general

My thoughts do fluctuate on it,but at present I'm very much convinced that the forthcoming assessment will show me not to have ASD. I have some autistic traits but strongly believe NVLD is a better fit.

This raises an issue of being on the spectrum vs being neurodivegent . I believe the latter to be more true in my case than the former.
My fear is that a negative for ASD will shut down talk of neurodiversity. I already know that the assessment centre doesn't deal with NVLD.

It is obvious to me there is something going on that isn't neurotypical even if it is not accounted for by ASD - the social interaction/social skills deficits ,below average motor skills, much higher verbal than non-verbal intelligence all point away from being neurotypical, ASD dx or not.

I would be interested in hearing other people's thoughts and experiences on this matter .

  • if you finish watching the video, you can click the link to find out what NVLD is Slight smile

I don't see it as sarcasm, it's basically the same as me posting a google or wikipedia link

and I don't understand why people ask for replies on acronyms like this, which could take some time to wait, isn't it much faster to google?

  • It's considered polite in my own head, to on first use spell out an acronym with which much of my readership may be unfamiliar.

I'd write (for example) Three Letter Abbreviation before then using TLA. It kinda gives the reader a chance to keep up, without having to take a google break. (from which they may never return of course, if they are on the ADD end of the spectrum like yours truly)

And if they ask, I am happier to give the explanation, rather than covertly suggesting that they are intellectually idle, because at least they are reading my work and asking questions!

    YMMV... :c)

Probably wasn't worth replying to this old post, but my sperg, it's gonna sperg...

  • no worries, I might have as well!

  • OK no worries I must have mis-interpreted.

  • I didn't mean any harm, I just think it's a nice video. I really like the animation. And I agree with you that it's worth asking since there might be other people who don't know the acronym, but my link solves that problem. If someone else views the forum and doesn't know the acronym and click on the reply, they will be led to a webpage that gives its definition.

  • Speed wasn't an issue I was about to go and do something else anyway and check back later. I figured if I didn't know the acronym others might have been in the same boat too.
