~ Photography And Pictures ... (And Pictures Disappearing in this Forum?)

Glad Tidings to All. I have two good reasons to begin this Thread:

One is to discuss Photography in general. I myself am told that I am "good at it", yet I would not claim to be "Professional" at it.

I start this Thread a lot for the sake of Posting Pictures and discussing such things, if that is alright...?

My Second reason for beginning this Thread is... Pictures tend to "disappear" after a while upon this Forum...! And so this is attempt at a Thread specifically addressing Pictures Posted Here.

I shall start with at least one... of 'Interesting Cloud Formations Over Where I am' (In London):

  • This Picture (of Puffins) marks the day in which WebPM applied a Picture Update. And so, we wait to see if all other Pictures Posted before this time, eventually turn into little Icons instead...

...To TrainSpotter, Thanks again, yet please tell me if I was correct about your Snowy Train being a Pullman or not (just a yes or no will suffice)...

  • With the Spring now equinoxed, I thought I would put a picture on of times we hope to come, warmer weather, when it is nice to get out.  But I will put this on instead ....  I may have submitted this before on another thread, so apologies if I have

  • Just to confirm that the update was applied early this morning (20 March 2018). To restate, we expect this fix to prevent further images from disappearing. However, it will not reinstate any images that are already missing.

    Apologies again for the problem.

    Regards

  • ...comparing the pictures...perhaps both are "Pullman"? Mine was in South London just then...?

  • Thank You Trainspotter! For now, I reciprocate thusly:

This Thread was begun to highlight and check and monitor Picture Error Posting... by myself anyway... and I was then, um, humbled, by WEBPM also Posting here (!).

To your good self... Thanks for the Picture, and I may Post pictures yet am neither Professional nor a Trainspotter (I cannot afford Travel much). Finally, I can try to Post my own "Train" pictures so far, however...

...I was sitting in the station, facing away, and then heard a lot of fuss, and then saw a lot of persons suddenly moving to take pictures of this Train. That is why I did not get the front of it. Yet this is a most Famous Train - Pullman - upon its regular run towards Victoria Station. Maybe one day I may photograph the front of it... yet I do not know which day. And I am not all that focussed about trains, yet have seen others do so, and all of that is quite alright by myself. Fair Play to Yourself and Thanks again.

  • A good idea to post pictures here.  I will not overload this with my pictures, but put one on now and again.  So today I will post this one of today's snow:

  • :-D

Thanks...! Note again that I said that they were the same picture... I personally Tiltle that Picture: "This Is Where Most Taxes Go", since it is a Picture of Canary Wharf (Another Tall Ships Picture, actually...)

Here are Two more, with a Ship sailing past that same place...

  • and pictures should get shrunk here automatically, as part of the upload. However, if you can do it first, I would

Regarding WebPMs reply: My own Pictures did *not* automatically get shrunk, as far as I recall. Yet, as is next advised, there, this I why I then learnt to shrink them myself, first. And then "Flatten" them. Twice.

  • I am still here, only for this Post, life is not predictable...

I would Quote something from your Reply, Sir... yet the entire thing would make *such* good Starter for a Thread...! I really mean that, of course!

...To the Topic of Pictures and Picture Software... Hmmm...

Sometimes Paid For Programs are offered for free. Probably not ADOBE stuff, however. Try taking a Picture, Snapshotting it (ScreenShot), and "Cropping" the ScreenShot (Reducing its size). There are lots of Free Programs which allow that as a Basic Function. Then there are those new fancy "Selfie"-Oriented Programs, very many of those are about. However you managed to Post Pictures Posted thus far, then that is one way through.

...In closing this Post, I write a thing which I too often write, however... Can someone ELSE support me or help out, please?? (But it is the Weekend now...)

  • Thank you,

I do not pay for anything online, I d not trust  any transaction to do with payment online.

I am the only person where I work that is not paid digitally into an account, CASH only, although that annoys my boss a lot, I am allowed this as when I first started working there all were paid by cash, as I have never agreed to be paid via bank to bank I do not have to. All new employees do have to.

I am old fashioned in use of data, I hear to many disaster stories of accounts being hacked,

Also living with cash I owe nothing, I do not have any credit,

my only card payment is for car insurance, other than that it never gets used,

Modern devices are becoming such that no one gets a choice in wether to update, devices are controlling everything people do,

My iPad is very stable apart from yesterday it couldn’t stay logged in here, blank screens appearing, typed text vanishing, often not reloading at all. I did an update tonight and it seems to be ok.

extremely frustrating when it kept logging off and back in every few seconds.

take care and thank you for all your advice and help.

  • i think I need an app?

...This is a Reply written "Live", and so, well, watch out for I what I write, sorry...!

To manipulate pictures, I use a Laptop (Running an old version of GIMP.). I cannot do a thing upon this EReader, and must transfer things back and forth and back and forth and...

I am scared of downloading Apps, (!) yet I would recommend "PHOTOSHOP TOUCH" for an i-anything-device. The trouble is, it costs money, and it updates itself online - hence my being scared. I have an old iPad which I never connect to this awful Internet, yet when I did, it has Photoshop Touch upon it, which is "old", but does not ask to be "updated".

I may reply again and elsewhere later, and, of course, Thank You for the Reply.

  • Hi DC after clicking a notification of your latest reply and coming direct to here I also cannot find WebPM reply? I opened all “Load Previouse” and load next but it isn’t visible, ?

update, I to went this thread  via the main topic title and WebPM reply was back, I then see you had replied, clicked in notifications and your reply ,,,,,,Finally, this is to WebPM, was directly under web PM reply, now it has moved away from it altogether,

so in short things do move around and disappear as new replies are addded.especially when reading new replies via notifications.

Nice to see you here and thank you for the advice about flattening pictures, I am not used to navigating with my iPad tablet device. I am not aware of how to do anything with pictures, I cannot find how to even look at the picture size? I certainly cannot manipulate them in any way.

i think I need an app?

my old laptop thstvran in windows xp was easy, open in paint, stretch and skew image, reduce by 50% and save new image as  resized but with the original name in front,

    thank you so far,

  • .... I left off, to go elsewhere, now about 5 minutes later, I come back here to write a reply or Thanks to WebPM... and it is gone again...I shall try again, yet this is note again (<> 22.30h, Friday 16th). And someone gave me a "Like" inbetween then and now...

  • ....No...no...no...! ONLY AFTER I Post a Reply to Endymion, does a Reply from WEBPM suddely show up...Posted 11 HOURS AGO?!??!

...(My reaction, there.) There are times when I provide entertainment inadvertently, both in life and upon this Forum...

    forums.adobe.com/.../1126878
...The given answer to "Flattening" is:
" What this means is that images, text boxes and other additions to the pdf become seamlessly integrated into the pdf, guaranteeing they will display on other users' computers and when printed."

I found these more Complex Answers after a quick search:

    helpx.adobe.com/.../printing-saving-transparent-artwork.html

    www.dummies.com/.../

I would also add a Metaphor: If one draws a picture, then sticks notes, glitter, photos, ribbons, etc. upon it... Then to "Flatten" it is to turn it back into a single "Flat" Picture, hence the Term.
It does not only apply to PDFs... sometimes a picture says that it is already "Flattened" but it is not. That is why I suggested the doing of it *Twice*.

  • I have no idea what this means but it sounds so funny I'm still laughing  :)

I definitely tend to FLATTEN things I get annoyed with!

  • This is good advice. I''ve checked, and pictures should get shrunk here automatically, as part of the upload. However, if you can do it first, I would. There are various online tools, some of which are drag and drop and require little specialist knowledge. 's suggestion of shrinking to 800 pixels maximum width will help a lot - you could even try 600px.

Remember that even many desktop screens are only 1920 pixels wide, and mobiles are smaller, so your picture is going to get shrunk for display anyway, or it won't fit on anyone's screen, let alone fitting in the smaller width of a discussion thread! And this is a thread full of pictures, so there are lots of them, all needing to be downloaded by everyone who reads the thread. If they were all excessively large, that would affect everyone!

Modern cameras, of course, take very-high resolution pictures (i.e. lots of pixels), which are far too large for any forum - again because, in the end, the pictures need to fit on the screen, whatever size they are when they are downloaded.

    Hope this helps.

  • I prefer pic.2 as it looks peaceful and sleepy with the calm water in the foreground. It looks quiet.

Pic. 1 just makes me think of all of the hundreds (thousands?) of PEOPLE there must be behind all of those windows, windows, windows! Cities creep me out a little bit in the daytime but I like when they go to sleep.

  • Just tried to add a more recent picture and it wouldn’t upload,

I am uncertain of this helping, yet this is what I myself do:

    The Picture is a JPEG/Jpeg.

Shrink it to under 800 Pixels either horizontally or vertically.

FLATTEN the image. Then save it. Flatten it again, and save it again.

...Try this and/or different methods with a single picture which does not Post, and then see which one Posts out of the lot of them. Use different Graphics Programs if necessary...

  • Two more pictures, while I can just now...

...And by increasing "Contrast", "Darkness", and "Yellow + Red", it may simulate Late Evening or Early Night-Nighttime, thusly:
