My son is 8 has ASC and language delay. I’ve noticed he says waterlemon instead of watermelon and ice cream leaf instead of nice green leaf. Is this autism or something else?
I can only speak from experience. My son for many years had difficulty with language particularly with some phrases. We were told by a speech and language person to use the correct phrase in a reply rather than correcting. This difficulty remained until he was in his teens, but eventually he got it right.
However I had an aunt who used to use similar but incorrect words and she was not autistic.
