My 5 year old won’t won’t let me wash/brush her hair.

Hi all,

my 5 year old daughter won’t let me wash her hair, it wasn’t a problem up until a year or so ago, I’ve tried all different ways, but now she’s refusing to get in the bath, I’ll run a bath hoping she’ll get in, sometimes she will but when I come in she jumps straight out.

I can’t even hold a brush in my hand without her running off, I’ve tried holding her which she’ll just flop to the floor wiggles away screaming, I manage it looking half decent by throwing it up in a pony but it’s totally full of tats. I’ve even tried while she’s sleeping but feels I’m there,

could any body suggest anything that works to help unraveling the knots. any suggestions Welcome also thanks for taking the time to read

  • Thank you, anything is a great help, honestly, I get really bad anxiety

  • In regards to the hair wash side I have seen shower caps that wash hair - you microwave to activate/warm up and then put it on the head and just rub then remove and leave to dry

  • Is it possible to turn it into a game. Maybe play hairdressers to get her used to her hair being touched. Start small with just putting slides in. Let her do your hair. Build up over time. Also maybe let her brush it herself. My daughter hasn’t let me touch her hair in a few years now but would happily do it herself. It saved me chasing her round with the brush. I have also noticed she prefers certain types of brushes as some feel too spiky. Regards washing could you treat her to her own special shampoo and see if she wants to wash it herself? I know it wont be perfect but better than nothing.
