Home schooling

hi all,

first time on here... my son has been recently diagnosed with moderate autism. He’s completely shut down where school is concerned... his anxiety towards his school are severe and the school are doing too little to late. He won’t go to school and I do not want to force him in kicking and screaming anymore. I don’t reAlly know where to go from here. How to deal with the school and what opinions are on homeschooling. There seems to be nothing for primary school kids with high or moderate autism out there. Flex school an option but at the moment he has shut down when it comes to this school.

wondered what people’s opinions are of home schooling? And how to go about it? The school won’t even offer a EHCP as they want to go through all these other options first. So we are self applying with the diagnoses we have.

where do we stand on non attendance, the GP is happy to right a note signing him of for anxiety for the time.

but is home schooling cutting him of from all the social interaction he would gain from school.

my question is... personal opinions of their experiences if homeschooling?

    I’m so glad  to see this posted, my 12 year old has completely shut down when it comes to school, we have had an ongoing battle for over a year with him about school ever since the change from primary to secondary, we tried with school to help him settle, tried half days. He doesn’t like socialising or making new friends.

    I've had to start home schooling because he has missed a lot of school I’m Lucky he is bright 

    anyway this is all new still to us as a family, CAMHS have to us they don’t think he can go mainstream school which is upsetting.

    I do enjoy home schooling, we have brought a lot of Collins workbooks, I’m not confident on my Maths but we have to do something because he can’t just stay at home, for socialising I call his old friends that he has from primary, they come over to play or something if he is feeling ok he’ll play at their house.

    Thank you for your replies. Both v interesting and positive too. I’m seriously thinking of taking mine out completely and yes doing exactly that keeping in contact with his school friends and building new ones. Nice to hear you enjoy home schooling. Haven’t got a clue where to start. Having one more go at getting him back into mainstream flexi hours. But home school does seem the most logical only other option. Mines been of school due to extreme anxiety of going to school - and in the past week of being of he’s started to thrive. So in away I suppose I have my answer. Seems v daunting tho to take the leap. Wishing you both well
