Help where to start the diagnosis

hi I am a mother of three kids aged 4,5 & 6. All of them were late speakers so I didn’t noticed there is something going on with my 5 year boy.

we are British but living abroad due to a foreign job, I want to know that if I need assessment of my kid for whom abroad doctors r saying he is showing mild autism symptoms, I’m not sure where to start, who to call and where to book appointments.

i would be highly obliged if someone give me a detailed answer as I will be travelling to UK for a short period with my boy.

he is studying in school and the only thing irritates the class is his sitting time.

he speaks but few direct communication, he can count 1-100 without any visual support, he sort organise and make friends easily

  • Hi NAS49859,

You might want to have a look at our Diagnosis for Children page here - https://www.autism.org.uk/about/diagnosis/children.aspx - which lays out the process of getting an ASD diagnosis. Unfortunately I think it is quite unlikely that you would be able to get a diagnostic assessment at short notice through your GP, as waiting lists to be referred are sadly often very long. You may want to consider looking at a private assessment if you have a limited amount of time.

Hope this is of some help,
