Test post - please ignore (I'm testing to see what is breaking some threads here)

I wrote to NAS with some info and advice - their tech people will have access the the logs which will give a lot more detail as to what is going on.

I suspect they have outsourced their support so it would take time for them to deal with minor bugs like this.

IF they can fix it, I would expect it to be later in the week based on standard response times and maintenance windows.

Still not fixed, I know its the weekend, but I wonder if this is going to be like that last big update they did which affected lots of people for months?

All replies are probably stored in a database (SQL or similar) and each reply to a thread will have the replies stored in the message somewhere listing the addresses of each response in order.

If that list becomes corrupt then it will fail to load the list of the replies associated with it. A re-index of the database will normally rebuild this list of connections and update the post with a refreshed table.

This was the more common issue back when I worked for companies that were heavy database users.

I tried editing one of the effected posts (ie the very first message) to see if it would force a re-index on the replies but no luck.

I wonder if it might be 2 posts made in quick succession or simultaneously causing a corruption somehow. Seems unlikely.

The error suggests a script has the problem.

I don't think I can reproduce the fault easily - I'll see if any more ideas come to me overnight 

Thanks to those of you who contributed - all your observations help us eliminate potential causes.

I think your two full stops too close together suggestion is possible, at least according to the many websites discussing script errors that I trawled through.

I don't know, I'm a total technoklutz, I'm just throwing out what I see and seeing if any of my stupid ideas might actually be right? I still think it's just being spiteful, I'm told that computers are machines that can't think, and whilst that maybe so, they still seem to act out.

I have no knowledge of which crash reporting system the NAS uses but this might be enlightening?

I think it's just random and dosen't need a reason, maybe it thinks, two full stops are to close together and dosen't trust it?

Maybe me posting will break it again?

The other thing that thread has is a link in the original first post. But I don't think that is the cause.

The only thing I did was reply to the original text with a block of text. It had a few sentences. Like this.

And a couple of paragraphs. It could be a random issue.

Then a list:

1. Item one.
2. Item two.

Then some more text, split in to 3 or so paragraphs. With a few lines in each.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

The second brown fox was a bit slower.

Stuart333  - can you try to replicate some of the things you were doing on the other thread when it went sideways please?

Try to keep it to one category of thing per response so we can hpefully narrow down what is causing it.
