Test post - please ignore (I'm testing to see what is breaking some threads here)

Please ignore this thread, I'm just trying different options to see if I can pinpoint what is breaking the threads - I'll ask for it to be deleted once/if I find the root cause of the issue.

From what I have seen it seems to be after a picture is inserted into a rely - seen it happen twice now but other times it is OK.

I'll try different sizes and file types to see if there is any basis for this.

Thanks for your patience

Iain

  • I just responded to the post "how ridiculous" with typed text, an inserted JPG file (the system resized if automatically) and a link to the site it came from - no pasted text, no bullet points or other formatting and no editing - then I got the orange banner that has been plaguing us.

This is the third time this combination has triggered the orange banner of doom - each time on a different post but the same set of events. We may be onto something.

  • For any extra info -was  it pc/mobile? And was it a new post of a reply to someone else? Just trying to see if there is any more we can gather.

  • I have replicated the exact same steps below when I was initially testing so it is possible it is another odd combination such as other people posting at the same time, a like and a post happening too close together etc.

I have spoken to the system admin here with what I found and they are talking to their tech support team, but I think this service is outsourced so responses / fixes are likely to be slow.

  • It's a shame as NAS will be paying for this support which seems to be non-existant!

The site more or less functions for everything else and money is tight (they are a charity after all) so these sorts of services are all done to save money rather than improve the quality of service.

I've seen so many companies use this approach and when you work out the cost / reward basis then it is understandable.

It will eventually get fixed, probably on the next software update but unless this issue spreads like the plague I don't think there is a real cost benefit to them to resolve it in a hurry.

Just explaining the "why" as I have been part of the decision making team for similar situations in other companies.
