Angels

Does anyone believe in angels?

What do you believe them to be?

What about nefilim, the half human half angel hybrids that the Great Flood from the bible was supposed to have wiped out?

I find the whole subject fascinating, quite a few cultures have angels in thier religious beliefs, some of them not from an Abrahamic tradition.

As someone said on another thread, do angels have the equipment to procreate?

Lucifer who was said to have been cast out of heaven by god along with his followers and went to hell and became the devil and demons etc, did hell already exist? Was it vacant when Lucifer took up residence there? A Lucifer figure appears in many religions and myths to, whats-his-face being punnished for giving humans fire and the other one who pushes a rock up a hill everyday only for it to roll back down every night and the one who has his liver pecked out by and eagle on a daily basis, why do we need these transgressive figures who appear to want to aid human development only to be punished by god who seemingly dosen't want us to develope?

There are also lots of myths about Watchers, Grigori and others who are the decendents of the Nephilim and keep watch ove rthe earth and certain individials and maybe bloodlines?

  • Me too, happy feast of St Michael tomorrow!

  • Yeah I believe in Angels, I see them. I am psychic so I get help from the angels to do energy healing. The angel I work with wraps itself around me and push energy through me to heal the other people. I went to see arch angel Gabriel at a Church, where he was floating and taking up the entire church, they asked me to join the order of angels when I die too. I can also travel to the angel realm which is fun and very powerful.

  • Angels can do many things - they can move matter, so you or your body parts - they can put thoughts in your head (though not read your thoughts unless you talk to them, then God passes them on so to speak. They can do nothing without God's permission. In my experience, they protect you and show you God's goodness and love, my angel will even thread a needle with me when I ask, or help me keep my balance whilst I kneel for communion, he helps me remember my prayers both to do them and the words, he nudges me to pray for someone or to remember to ask God for help. He protects me from intrusive or evil thoughts - demons can also put thoughts in your head - you just reject them in Jesus name. Ask your angel to teach you how to make use of his help

Here's an expert on angels from someone who works with the opposite

    (832) “Guardian Angels Explained | On Angels, Protection & Spiritual Guidance” ~ Fr Ripperger - YouTube

Yep my school didn't teach me alot about the faith either - it's so beautiful and always more to learn. I hope you come to mass and go forward in learning about your faith. This priest above has many very interesting talks especially on virtue.

  • As a Roman Catholic, I do believe in Angels and other spiritual beings.

I do recite the Guardian Angel Prayer and St Michael the Archangel Prayers daily.

Also, I do like Archangel Gabriel and Archangel Raphael.

  • Thank you for your reply! Only just seen this as I haven’t been too well thanks to workmen smoking in my place Sob

  • Hi I find what you have wrote interesting. I went from Catholic schools from 4 to 19 in London and at secondary school we just bought our own Bible and I myself had a standard type like KJV. We wasn’t told to buy Catholic Bible’s either. We never learnt at school about guardian angels, although I did learn about Saints and things like divine mercy.  There isn’t thing I disagree about Catholism today and sometimes still attend my Catholic primary school. Was Baptised in a Saint Catherine Siena church.

About guardian angels...as Christians when we are baptised we have our holy spirit and the Holy Spirit in heaven speaks to our spirit which any word of message they want to they can pass it onto us from God. What further role do you think a guardian could serve past that. Sometimes myself I have thought that I have someone out there who speaks out things to me directly but I think they could be a Saint in immortal heaven in heaven and everyone who is in Heaven is considered a Saint....To me that could be the role of a guardian. May be that could be a guardian. I know Psalms mentioning about angels protecting us like as we sleep etc.

  • No, not offended at all, you obviously have strong faith so your ideas are not wrong. I found what you wrote about the spirits very interesting and do hold a superstition in my view of not playing with things I do not understand. However we do as human beings tend to be drawn to things that frighten us possibly due to lack of understanding and a sense of mystery to it. I cannot say I hold a firm belief in the actual existence of spirits personally but I also cannot say with certainty they don’t exist. Seeing is believing in my case, I’ve been to many spiritualists churches who at times have said things they could not possibly have known. Sometimes they will describe a member of the family that has passed away and given a description of their personality and physical features and pass on a message from them. It can also be a message from the mediums own spirit guide being passed onto you, this is usually advice and guidance over a current or future issue. As I wrote this a message from my sister appeared asking if I wished to hear her most recent reading, weird!

  • It isn't an either or situation - science is invented by God. Mathematics too. Look at the Fibonace sequence - all of nature is made according to it. If you look at your cells under a microscope - one little thing (sorry im bad at remembering names) that's job is clean up or dying cells and broken or defective ones - well it looks exactly like a machine - so God created us in that detail and taught us how to make machines (of course at the time we made machines there was yet no technology to see these little cell cleaners)

All thos ehorrible things are allowed by Him, because greater good can come out of them, than if they were not to exist in the first place. We have free choice to create evil, but we also have free choice to choose good. Those who choose good in this sort of climate - will live in glory for ever.

  • That's not entirely true about ghosts - that person was a little mistaken. Ghosts are real and they are one of three things 1) the persons delusion ie mental health issues 2) demons as your friend said 3) souls trapped in purgatory (a waiting room to heaven) who come to asl for prayers, forgiveness - these are realtively easy to tell as they are usually silent and just appear looking wistfully out a window or wandering in building or graveyard etc. They seldom speak and never frighten you on purpose. They want your prayers and often a mass said for them or forgiveness and leave forever to go to heaven when they get it. In this day and age this may take years as people aren't faith filled anymore and who thinks to pray for them or ask a priest to offer a mass for them?  Demons are easy to recognise too - they want attention and to terrify you - they slam doors and move things and try to frighten you, they want you to sin and die so you come to hell with them, they want to give you their misery. The name of Jesus will protect you but you may need an excorcist to get rid of an infestation of them. All only appear with God's permission and can only do what He wants - wether by force (demons) or love (souls in purgatory).

Makes a lot of sense to all the 'stories' out there

These paranormal investigators should stay away - many of them end up getting possessed by these demons because they aren't protected by Baptism or Holy Orders. Exorcists are needed to get them out of that predicament.

Anyone should stay away from crystals and any 'so called energy' those crystals are never used for good always portals for demons. Also obviously people should stay away from ouija boards and any sort of divination even tarot cards and horoscopes. They are also portals which can lead to trouble. God protects us cos we are so daft but sometimes He may let us learn a lesson and get posssed, oppressed or obesssed (extraordinary diabolic temptations).

  • Ahh sorry, this make me laugh. I hope you aren't offended by that.

It's not science that proves 'the Faith' but the Faith that proves science because God is the one revealing things to the scienctists and He hasn't told all yet (mostly because they stopped listening to Him and started thinking it was all their own ideas - like evolution which is an idea from hell).

If as you say you are open to having this faith - then try this - ask God to make Himself known to you, that you want to know if He is real. He can hear you in your thoughts or say out loud, whatever you like. He will always answer but not in a way you expect, if you are open as you say - you'll 'hear' Him.

  • They only ever look after one person. That's their only mission. After the persons death they go to heaven with or without the person.

Yes 4000 years before Jesus birth - when the world was made. The angels were created on the first day of creation with the heavens - it's believed they fell (or not) right away. Most of the early faith from the beginning of the world until the 1500's was word of mouth ie the oral tradition. These stories have been passed down largely through oral tradition and some written tablets that survived form Jesus time or pre. The oral tradition is called Tradition and is now mostly written down, some is lost some things are just done as they were generations before. It's a bit like traditions in your family traditions passed down from mother to daughter etc.

No, I've never heard of 'Adam Lay Ybounden' sounds interesting.

  • Your experiences aren’t anyone else’s and they are valid.

This is very true, a lot of my interest in the spiritual world comes from my family who were quite firm believers and I grew up reading a lot of books on hauntings. I understand the idea of a personality or energy existing outside the physical body may be laughable to some but there’s an awful lot of people out there who’ve had a paranormal experience or believe in ghosts at least. A Christian once said to me on the subject that if ghosts are real they are demons due to the belief that you cannot stay here, you’d either go up or down when you pass. I would say that ghosts are perhaps less paranormal and may be a very unusually occurring phenomenon involving energy preserved in the surroundings, this may be due to a tragic event in the area or an extremely emotionally charged incident. It may relate to crystals and their perceived ability to produce energy but an apparition would require a lot of this.

  • I think it’s important to think outside the box, theres room in the world for all kinds of thinkers and beliefs. As I say I am not entirely convinced of an afterlife or the supernatural but I remain open to change, I feel it would be naive or me to dismiss it entirely.

  • Interesting DotK, do guardian angels only ever look after one person and then go and do other stuff, or do they, when the person they've been overseeing dies, look after someone else?

I've never heard of angles being shown Jesus and his story before he was born, presumably a very long time before at around the time of genesis?

Have you ever listened to 'Adam Lay Ybounden', the version I'm familiar with is performed by the Mediael Babes, it was written around the 15th C and gives a very interesting version of Adam being happy to wait for Mary, Mother of Jesus.

  • Your experiences aren’t anyone else’s and they are valid. I sometimes wish that I still had a faith that used to bring predictability and comfort.  I agree that evil and good cannot be compared unless the other exists.

Not everything is all good or all bad and for many people, there isn’t a conflict between science and God or a Higher Power. The age old argument still holds true, science cannot prove that God does or does not exist.

  • brothers and sisters to make babies

The answer will be that it wasn't a sin until later, when it became avoidable. They got a sort of get-out-of-jail-free-for-incest card for the first few generations.

I'm just making this up, but will I be wrong? ...

  • I believe we came from 2 people. It does add up. Their genetics were not suffering mutations like ours, they were pure.

It is not the genetics I was making this point about, but rather the fact that it would have required brothers and sisters to make babies together for the whole procreation thing to work.

  • Look at the creation story - are we to believe that we are descended from 2 people in the garden of Eden? How did their offspring have offspring without in-breeding. How did the other races come about? The facts don't add up.

I believe we came from 2 people. It does add up. Their genetics were not suffering mutations like ours, they were pure. But I'm not smart enough to put it in words. If you are brave enough, here's all the scientific info you could ever want - especially listen to foundations restored and they have a youtube channel, with the talks about genetics - check out Pam Acker
