Anybody else on here hate spring and summer?

Hello all. Slight smile

Been a while since I last visited this forum, but it's nice to be back and hopefully now I am able to spend more time on here.

Anyway, anybody on here hate spring and summer as much as I do?

Whilst I enjoy a good thunderstorm and I also like flowers, that's the only part about this time of the year that I like. I wouldn't say that I have reverse sad as such (at least not yet), but I am undoubtedly much more of an autumn and winter kind of person. People keep going on about how they look forward to spring and summer and you feel obligated to play along with people in conversation who say that "the weather is so lovely at the moment". But I can't relate, though I used to.

I have two gardens and I detest having to maintain them as it's such a hassle (getting myself a flat is out of the question for the timebeing). As a night owl and an introvert I am also not a fan of the ridiculously long daylight hours and for this reason I always look forward to the summer solstice. There's also the local boy racers with their loud cars or motorbikes speeding along the street as well as the blasting out of loud 'music'. And you also get the bugs including swarms of flies and pesky wasps.

In terms of temps, above 23 Celsius starts to become on the uncomfortable side for me and UK homes aren't built for the heat. What is just as annoying is that any forecasted hot spells are upgraded each day we get closer to them.

I would probably enjoy summer more if I was abroad on holiday lounging by the pool or on the beach whilst staying in an air conditioned hotel. But in the UK, summer is an annoyance.

  • Hi there! I just want to say I can completely agree with you there. I find things unbearable when it goes above 20 degrees Celsius ha. I get such bad heat strokes too and I’m unable to do any exercise due to heat.

  • I love autumn and spring as I like it to be fairly light and able to go outside without a thick coat on, but I love wearing layers of cosy clothes and boots and the air being cool. My favourite material is corduroy and after summer I find it really exciting to be able to wear corduroy again.  I love the colours of autumn and the smell of brown leaves, slightly rotting nature and bonfires. In the spring the hope and certainty that it’s all coming around again, and being able to enjoy spring flowers. Winter is good for slightly hibernating, spending days just hiding under a blanket and doing things I love, but if it’s raining all the time not so good as I have a horse to attend to and the mud can be unbearable. The summer is just too hot for me. I hate my skin feeling clammy and sticky and I hate sweating, but I do love a swim in the sea and spend hours just bobbing about as it’s so calming. I would say that treading water is a stim for me, just not one I can do very often.

  • Summer in the UK can be pretty awful. I'd probably say anything above 20 degrees starts to feel too hot for me but like you, I do enjoy the flowers! I'm an autumn girl, I wish autumn lasted longer!

  • I used to hate summer but the best thing about it is the cricket season - watching cricket really helps to soothe my brain. I too have real problems not so much controlling temperature but knowing what my temperature is. I always feel slightly cold and wear a coat indoors for a lot of the year. I struggle in the summer and especially going to hot countries and get hot and bothered really quickly.

  • I don't like summer, I burn easily, so being covered up when it's hot is uncomfortable. It's too bright as well.

If I have a holiday it was nearly always in the autumn. Not had one for 10 years.

I like spring and autumn, comfortable temperature, the spring flowers, the autumn leaf colour. Winter is nice when it is clear, but not endless low grey cloud, although the lack of colour can be depressing.

  • It's because people have their doors and windows open, we spend much of the year cowering from the cold and wet, we don't realise how loud we are.

I hate the smell of BBQ's, so with them and the nosie I tend to stay inside with the doors and windows shut, certainly weekends and during school holidays, even when I'd like to be out.

  • I like summer, firstly because I have a high sensitivity to cold (if my hands, feet & neck get too cold, it actually registers as pain) and secondly because I suffer with SAD when there aren't many hours of daylight. I like the sunlight and we've had many perfect days recently here on the South Coast of England - warm but not too hot, with a nice breeze.

I've tried living in Southern Spain where it can get to around 40C. That's hot - too hot even for someone like me who enjoys summer weather. Luckily it mostly stays much cooler than that in the Uk.

I do agree though about the noise - not sure why people get louder as it gets warmer!

  • To be fair, I don't really mind spring itself too much. What I don't like about it is that it is a trainsition into summer. If we just had spring without summer, then it wouldn't be so bad.

  • I love spring, but could happily do without most of summer, I can't control my temperature, so I'm usually to hot, anything above about 22-23 and I'm flaked out. I'm sorry, but glad that I'm not the only one with Summer SAD, nobody believes that it can happen and that we're just being miserable, but how can one be happy when one itches all the time, are dripping with sweat, achey, even more brain fooged than usual and chronically sleep deprived?

I've found that keeping my blinds closed and the window open helps, as it lets air in but not the heat, I've been known to use one of those large gel filled dog cooling mats to sleep on, I need another one actually.

  • The best time of the year and a great song. Fallen leafMaple leaf

  • I hate summer and winter as my temperature regulation is frankly (enter your choice of expletive here). Anything above 20 and below 5 really starts to bother me. Maybe summer in the early morning as then sun comes up (I don't sleep) listening to the world waking.

  • I wish it could be Autumn all the time ...

Ha! Forever Autumn ... That's a good song.

  • Only nine days to go now until the solstice. Grin

  • Hello, yes I hate spring and summer, with a passion haha. I absolutely love Autumn and Winter, and I love sharing with the spring and summer lovers that the nights will soon be drawing in mid June and that Autumn is around the corner. For me, I can sense the changes in August, there are ever so subtle signs around that time that change is coming, and it fills me with absolute joy.

I love the cold dark nights, getting home and putting the candles on and getting cozy in my numerous fleeces. Autumn has a certain smell too, maybe it’s the damp leaves but it just smells so wonderful when combined with the cold air. Plus, we start getting all the storms rolling in which I absolutely LOVE! I love storms, wet n windy weather, all of which we get loads of in Autumn and Winter.

The only thing I do like about spring and summer, despite my hatred of it, is all my trees come into leaf and provide more privacy so I can sit outside, sometimes well after dark, and enjoy a cup of tea without fear of being spied on. All what you’ve put about spring and summer I can relate to though, so you’re definitely not alone in this.

  • I’m not a big fan of summer generally I prefer colder climes but I do like spring. I do  suffer from hay fever but I love seeing the new animals, the green returning after winter etc. summer can go into room 101 for me….
