Anybody else on here hate spring and summer?

Hello all. Slight smile

Been a while since I last visited this forum, but it's nice to be back and hopefully now I am able to spend more time on here.

Anyway, anybody on here hate spring and summer as much as I do?

Whilst I enjoy a good thunderstorm and I also like flowers, that's the only part about this time of the year that I like. I wouldn't say that I have reverse sad as such (at least not yet), but I am undoubtedly much more of an autumn and winter kind of person. People keep going on about how they look forward to spring and summer and you feel obligated to play along with people in conversation who say that "the weather is so lovely at the moment". But I can't relate, though I used to.

I have two gardens and I detest having to maintain them as it's such a hassle (getting myself a flat is out of the question for the timebeing). As a night owl and an introvert I am also not a fan of the ridiculously long daylight hours and for this reason I always look forward to the summer solstice. There's also the local boy racers with their loud cars or motorbikes speeding along the street as well as the blasting out of loud 'music'. And you also get the bugs including swarms of flies and pesky wasps.

In terms of temps, above 23 Celsius starts to become on the uncomfortable side for me and UK homes aren't built for the heat. What is just as annoying is that any forecasted hot spells are upgraded each day we get closer to them.

I would probably enjoy summer more if I was abroad on holiday lounging by the pool or on the beach whilst staying in an air conditioned hotel. But in the UK, summer is an annoyance.

  • I like summer, firstly because I have a high sensitivity to cold (if my hands, feet & neck get too cold, it actually registers as pain) and secondly because I suffer with SAD when there aren't many hours of daylight. I like the sunlight and we've had many perfect days recently here on the South Coast of England - warm but not too hot, with a nice breeze.

I've tried living in Southern Spain where it can get to around 40C. That's hot - too hot even for someone like me who enjoys summer weather. Luckily it mostly stays much cooler than that in the Uk.

I do agree though about the noise - not sure why people get louder as it gets warmer!

  • It's because people have their doors and windows open, we spend much of the year cowering from the cold and wet, we don't realise how loud we are.

I hate the smell of BBQ's, so with them and the nosie I tend to stay inside with the doors and windows shut, certainly weekends and during school holidays, even when I'd like to be out.
