Gigs and concerts

If you could see any band or artist, current or historic who would it be.

My historic band would be Joy Division, I was 9 when Ian Curtis died and I've no idea how I came across them really but I'm so glad I did, maybe I stared with New Order and worked backwards.

The current band probably would be the Manchester Orchestra but they don't seem to tour in the UK.

My next planned concert is to see Bear's Den

  • I would really like to see Korn, Bring Me The Horizon and Taylor Swift. I would really like to see a big jazz band or orchestra. I would love to see Duel of Fates played live. It would be nice to travel back and see The Beatles and Bob Marley.
I recently went to a Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium 20th anniversary concert, it was incredible.

  • That's what's stopping me too, I might try and force myself into going to something this year.

We need a time machine, I'd definitely be up for a trip to see tom P and Tina T, I imagine they'd be awesome live.

  • I missed the chance to see guns and roses in late 80s as I was a little too young to go (15). Would have loved to see the original line up on the appetite tour.

I wish I'd done more concerts but only recently started to think could cope with it again,  bit late unfortunately given my tastes.... Mostly rock/metal from way back.

Aerosmith were on my wish list but then they cancelled recently and stood down from their career.

Tom petty is another but obviously too late for that.

The original line up of Fleetwood Mac too (again too late!) as they were the soundtrack to my early childhood years.

Probably would go see the wildhearts, love their slightly sarcastic lyrics , heavy rock vibe and the fact they've survived this long. But I might be too old for that now! I saw them in 92 and they were awesome, they supported love/hate.

I loved the skate punk era, blink 182, that sort of thing, it felt comfortable as it was cheeky young outcast type music. Again they're all retired!

Being realistic, I'd be tempted with maybe some more modern indie rock bands, foo fighters, royal blood etc.

  • Kylie at age 55 is also a true survivor, like with her struggle with her cancer and she keeps reinventing herself, a survivor in the music industry, which is no easy feat - she’s also got an Irish grandmother in Melbourne and she’s met our Taoiseach Leo Varadkar at government buildings in Dublin - Kylie is the very epitome of style, class and sophistication, which is why she is adored by gay men the world over, myself included

  • I bought her Golden cd in 2018 when it came out and have been meaning to get her latest Tension II album but haven't got round to it yet. I like Kylie her music is always fun and fresh.

  • I'm not sure I'll ever be in a position where anxiety allows me to ever go to a live gig or concert but if it does, these are the ones I would love to see. Current artists I'd like to see live are:

    • Charlie Puth.
    • Dire Straits.
    • Chris de Burgh
    • Ed Sheeran.
    • James Blunt.
    • Taylor Swift.
    • Pet Shop Boys.
    • Adele.

    Past:

    • David Bowie.
    • Amy Winehouse.
    • Queen (with Freddie).
    • Elvis Presley.
    • George Michael.
    • Tom Petty.
    • The Beatles.
    • Michael Jackson.
    • Roy Orbison.
    • Tina Turner.
  • I’ve seen Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite tour a few years ago here in Manchester and I’d definitely go to see Kylie live again as I’ve got a massive Kylie collection of CD’s DVD’s and digital downloads as a huge Kylie fan since my teens in the 80’s - I’ve grown up with her music and I’ve danced to her songs in the gay clubs - given how Kylie is a fluent French speaker from her time living in Paris, she’s inspired me to learn French, as French is my strongest foreign language

  • Joy Division would be the one I'd love to have seen (my avatar for this forum was taken on the 'Joy Division bridge' in Hulme, Manchester). During my diagnostic assessment the psychiatrist was particularly interested in my routine for attending gigs these days. I have to get the set list and will try to be the first person to post it on the website Setlist FM. While everyone else is merrily dancing about and enjoying themselves I'm trying to type the list of songs into my phone and getting stressed if the singer says: "this is a new one" and doesn't give the title. I find myself trying to get to the front of the crowd so I can see the setlists taped to the stage and try to read the titles upside-down. I think the doc could have diagnosed me on the basis of that alone!

  • Aw, poor old Mick Dills (not his actual name, I've had to swap the letters round), this forum thinks he's an expletive. :-)

  • I'm not a big concert goer (they're a bit too loud and unpredictable) but have done just a few over the years. Far and away the best of them was a small and intimate gig by The Radiophonic Workshop (yes, those guys who toiled away in the backrooms of the BBC to create all those fever dream soundscapes and theme tunes of our vivid youth) who in retirement thought it would be fun to form an actual band and recreate some of those sacred sonic touchstones as well as some new material and play it live to anyone nerdy enough to care.

Anyway, the line-up was: Mark Ayres, Paddy Kingsland (my all time fave tv composer), Roger Limb, *** Mills, and a bloke called ( I think?) Andrew Pepper (formerly of The Prodigy it seems) who played the drums to make some things sound more full-bodied.

Well, while those legends were more than enough in themselves, a dream gig would be them (impossibly) reunited with the late Delia Derbyshire, a pioneer in so many ways - it was she who made that first incredible version of the Doctor Who theme, but did so much more besides - and bringing her stuff back to life too.

But I'd settle for hearing any of them again, it was a magical night.

  •  Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin....

    Ben

  • Thin Lizzy with the original line up.

    Pink Floyd with Syd Barret.

    SLAYER with all original members.

I'd love to see Dire Straits again just so I can see Brothers in Arms played live once more.

    Queen.

    Metallica with Chris Burton

  • I'd very much like to see REO Speedwagon.

  • Dr. Mabuse was one of my favourites. I also like the Blue Nile while on the subject of similar artists. (A walk across the rooftops)

  • Propaganda

You may remember that I love their version of Edgar Allan Poe's 'A Dream Within A Dream'.

  • I would loved to have seen Japan (and am extremely jealous of Debbie and Pixiefox!!!)

I also would have love to have seen Joy Division, but i am lucky to have seen New Order and also Peter Hook play Love Will Tear Us Apart and a few others.

I actually had a wish come true back in 2018 when the two singers in Propaganda (Claudia Brücken and Susanne Freytag) perfomed "A Secret Wish" live in London. The album's producer Steven Lipson was heavily involved in putting the sounds back together and so it was as authentic as could possibly be. I have since seen them a few more times - once in their native Germany. Up until then I never thought I'd see these performed live.
